Not every “disaster” is actually a failure.

They called us a disaster tribe.

This was my first (of many! 😜) Tribal Councils on Season 48.

I did not just want to play Survivor. I wanted to live it. Every part of it.

And trust me, I got all of it!

Tonight Survivor hits 50 seasons. Twenty five years of this game.

I am grateful I got to be part of it.

Because standing in that arena, even on a so called disaster tribe, was never a failure.

It was a privilege.

Happy Survivor premiere day to those who celebrate!

Last year I signed a contract with a literary agent.
It was a deliberate step toward something bigger.

I did not post about it.
I just started writing.

For years as a surgeon, I’ve seen what happens when important conversations never happen. When men avoid the check-in. When families assume everything is fine.

So I decided to write about it.

This will take time.
But some conversations are worth starting.

More as it unfolds.

It’s been a busy week in the news, with a lot of headlines touching colorectal cancer.

I talk about many health topics, but this is where I’ve devoted most of my professional energy.

No matter how often we say it, it still needs repeating. Screening and early detection save lives.

Maturing is learning to appreciate a “no.”

Sometimes it protects you.
Sometimes it pushes you to work harder.
And sometimes it just keeps you out of places you didn’t need to be.

Took me a while to learn this.

Feeling fine doesn’t mean your heart is fine.

Men’s heart risk starts rising quietly in the mid-30s, which is long before most are paying attention.

We talked about this on the news today because awareness now beats regret later.

Know your numbers.

Today is the first day of Black History Month. Why recognize it?

Because some parts of history were never taught, especially in medicine.

This month is about learning and understanding how the past still shows up in the present.

Here’s a little-known Black history fact in medicine.

Many of the anatomical illustrations doctors still learn from were developed using Black bodies, even though Black people were largely excluded from medical care at the time.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, medical schools relied on grave robbing and the forced use of Black bodies for dissection. Those same communities were denied treatment, dignity, and consent.

Much of modern medical knowledge was built on Black bodies, while Black communities were largely excluded from its benefits.

This surprised a lot of people.

Cancer death rates are down in younger adults except for colorectal cancer.

Blood in the stool, ongoing bowel changes, anemia, abdominal pain, fatigue, or weight loss should not be ignored.

Early attention changes the outcome.

Most people do not expect this in younger adults.

People always ask me how to get on Survivor.

Two years ago, I shared this video on the power of saying thank you.

The very next day I got a call from my casting producer from Survivor. I had actually applied a month earlier and almost forgotten about it, but the timing felt like a nudge from life that things happen in unexpected ways.

What followed was a journey I could never have planned and an experience of a lifetime. Gratitude and authenticity open doors in ways you can’t predict.

Sometimes gratitude is not the end
It is the doorway

Dr. King wasn’t fearless.
That’s the part history sometimes cleans up.

Fear was present.
He just didn’t let it stop the work.

Many of the doors I walk through today exist because he chose to stand when stepping away would’ve been safer.

His legacy isn’t a quote.
It’s a responsibility.

It lives every time we stay engaged, serve with integrity, and keep going when the work feels heavy.

Just spoke on TV about weight-loss medications in 2026. Here’s what patients and doctors are seeing.

Takeaways:
• More options are available, including pills and injections
• These medications work on biology, not willpower or motivation
• Long-term success depends on preparation, expectations, and follow-up
• The key question: “What’s the long-term plan?
