Important 1099-NEC Update for Wellness Professionals!
Heads up! The IRS has raised the 1099-NEC and 1099-Misc reporting threshold.
Here’s what you need to know:
➡️ For 2025:
You still need to file a 1099-NEC for any contractor you’ve paid $600 or more or 1099-Misc for office rent.
➡️ Starting in 2026:
The threshold increases to $2,000, meaning you won’t need to file a 1099 unless the total payments hit that new mark for each contractor.
This change is a win for small business owners, but it’s still crucial to track all payments now so you’re ready when tax season rolls around. Be prepared, stay ahead of the game.
💡 Tip: Keep collecting W-9s from your contractors regardless of the amount so you're covered just in case
💡 BONUS Tip: Have your contractors submit their completed W-9 before you make the first payment to them, this way you won’t need to chase down anyone for their information and rush to file the 1099 before the deadline!
