The "I Did That" Game
If you're struggling to release the need for othersā approval or craving understanding from someone who may never truly get youāthis message is for you.
Recently, I found myself longing for understanding from someone in my life, not fully knowing why. I knew that if I could let this go, my heart would feel lighter, and my soul would shine brighter.
So, I sat in meditation and asked: Why am I seeking this? And how do I release it?
The answers came almost instantly.
The why traces back to my childhood. I wasnāt always seen, heard, or validated in the way I needed. I craved deep understanding from my brothers, who I adore, but as the ābabyā of the family, I often felt like I was less than. As I reflected, the dots of my life experiences started to connect. It became clear that my current need for understanding from this person is tied to those old wounds. I felt grateful for this awareness, I then asked how. How can I release this longing?
The answer was clear: Go in.
Go inward and fill the void with you seeing you. Who are you? What have you accomplished? Celebrate that! Become your own champion. See yourself, celebrate your life, and understand that your self-validation is enough.
Immediately, I started playing what I now call the āI Did Thatā game. (see example here: https://lnkd.in/eQ_-X685
I graduated from NYU with a dance major and education minorāI did that!
I gave birth to two beautiful childrenāI did that!

Now, I invite you to play the āI Did Thatā game.
Take a moment today and reflect on everything youāve accomplished. Look inward, and recognize all the incredible things youāve done, big or small. You donāt need others to validate youāyou have the power to see, celebrate, and understand yourself. Your life is filled with moments where you did that! Give yourself the credit you deserve.
You are enough.
PS: I encourage you to write your āI did thatā list down so that you can not only feel it, you can see it which will deepen the good feeling inside of you.
Please feel free to respond here with any thoughts... I hope this helps.
