Some summer reflections: I was thinking about the gift, and challenge, of second marriages. Called "the victory of hope over experience" by some, second marriages bring the opportunity for you to change things up in a big way. This is a well-written account of the type of therapy that Kristy and I have been drawing from to teach skills in our Essential Relational Skills Boot Camps over the past four years. It is the type of couples' work that we both incorporate into our approaches and Terry Real's work is strong here. Of course, this couple will have to work hard to sustain the changes they've made in 8 sessions, but that is the beauty of the work: it works, and you have to keep replicating it.
