Did you know? Burning and discomfort might signal pelvic floor dysfunction!

It’s common for patients to feel burning, discomfort, or urgency and initially think it’s a urinary tract infection. When a urine culture comes back negative, though, the search for answers often leads to frustrating rounds of tests without clear results.

Consider this: Pelvic floor tension alone can cause burning and itching sensations! A pelvic floor evaluation may be helpful if you're experiencing recurrent urgency, burning, or itching without any sign of infection. YES—this could be a pelvic floor issue! Let’s help others know, too!

An a**l fissure is a small tear in the lining of the a**s, and it can cause some pretty uncomfortable symptoms:

•Pain during bowel movements
•Pain after bowel movements that can last for several hours.
•Bright red blood on the stool or toilet paper
•A visible crack in the skin around the a**s
•A small lump or skin tag near the fissure

So, how can Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy (PFPT) help?

Nutrition and Education to Improve Stool Consistency: Keeping stool softer will decrease the risk of aggravating the fissure further.

Enhances Muscle Relaxation: It helps relax and restore the function of your pelvic floor muscles, easing discomfort.

Increases Awareness: PFPT helps you gain better awareness of your pelvic floor, aiding in prevention of further tearing.

Restores Coordination: It works to improve the coordination of muscles in the abdominopelvic area and re**al sensitivity, essential for recovery.

If you’re dealing with these symptoms, PFPT is key to finding relief and getting back to feeling your best!

Understanding Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

More people learning about their pelvic floors is fantastic! But remember, pelvic floor dysfunction isn’t always about weakness.

Your pelvic floor muscles are unique, constantly “on” to support your organs and ensure continence. These muscles have more slow-twitch fibers, sustaining contractions over time. If you’re facing pelvic floor issues, it’s not always due to weakness.

Somewhere along the way, Kegels became the go-to advice for pregnant, postpartum, and menopausal individuals. But strengthening isn’t always the answer! The true goal is pelvic floor coordination—the ability to relax and contract in response to different stressors.

If you’re experiencing symptoms, a pelvic floor PT evaluation is essential to find the right solution for you. Don’t just guess—get evaluated!
