Rise and Resist

We are taking direct action together for equality, justice, and human rights. We are rising against oppression and tyranny. We are building a better world.

Rise and Resist, formed in response to the 2016 US election, is a direct action group made up of both new and experienced activists committed to opposing, disrupting, and defeating any government act that threatens democracy, equality, and our civil liberties. We work collaboratively, creatively, respectfully, and with all the joy we can muster for the health of the people and the planet. We reject State sanctioned violence, bigotry, and systemic discrimination in all its forms, including those directed at people because of their disability, gender identity/expression, immigration status, race, religion, sex, and sexuality. We condemn all the oppressive policies that define the current government regime. We strive to intentionally honor the complex challenges we face. Join us in fighting for justice.

We will hold space at 96th Street and Broadway and announce the names of those murdered by I.C.E. or those who’ve died in their custody by su***de or medical neglect.

We will be out in front of the Federal Worker’s entrance at 26 Federal Plaza conducting a silent vigil with signs calling out ICE and ICE Agents for abducting and murdering immigrants and Americans.

26 Federal Plaza houses many DHS and ICE offices as well as immigration courts.

We condemn the federal government for its draconian and inhumane cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and housing programs in order to fund ICE, wars, genocide in Palestine and huge tax breaks for the richest people on the planet.

We demand that New York leaders step-up in this critical moment with bold plans to counter the federal attacks on our Safety Net!

Gov. Hochul and Mayor Mamdani must ensure that ALL NEW YORKERS have UNIVERSAL access to healthy food, dignified housing, and health care. They must make big corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share in order to fully fund social Safety Net programs!

Special State of The Union Speech at Truth Tuesdays

On Tuesday, Trump will deliver the annual State Of The Union Address (live at 9PM), which will be carried live by FOX. We will be out in the FOX Plaza that day at our usual time, from Noon to 1PM, demanding that FOX fact check his speech. We will have a load of signs and banners, including TRUMP LIES DEMOCRACY DIES, IMPEACH CONVICT REMOVE, Fact Check Trump, GRIFTER, LIAR, RA**ST, RACIST, and EPSTEIN....

We know that the SOTU, like every other speech Trump delivers (on or off the teleprompter), will be full of lies. Lies about Immigration, lies about tariffs, lies about his warmongering, lies about the economy, lies about the media, and lies about the resistance.

We demand that every network that carries the SOTU, and every journalist who covers it, fact checks the speech and break down the lies. Trump is a lying, grifting, constitution breaking, white nationalist bully. He must be held accountable by the Supreme Court, The Congress, the media, and we the people.

If you don’t normally come to FOX, we encourage you to come out this Tuesday (sorry about the weather) and join us.

Join us for a night of dancing, drag, and defiance as we fundraise for mass movement art to resist ICE and authoritarianism, and build the future we deserve!

Many Hands Workshop is a space to make visuals for our movement, debuting in Chelsea this March. The workshop will welcome all to plug into visual and creative movement building to combat the rise of
authoritarianism-from rapid response action support, skill shares, and community distribution of materials. Whether you are an experienced artist or have never lifted a brush, all will be welcome to skill up together to make art for resistance. Our movements are growing to rise to the moment, and there’s a role for everyone to play.

This fundraiser will support Many Hands in securing the space, materials, and labor to bring this artistic, anti-fascist vision to life in a way that’s accessible, safe, and community-minded for as many people as possible.

Hosted in Brooklyn at the colorful and lively community-arts space, , this fundraiser will feature performances from , , , and more! We will also be raffling off some incredible prizes, including art by .

What do we do when trans rights are under attack? Stand up and fight back!

Join the NYC DSA Trans Rights and Bodily Autonomy Working Group as we launch the next phase of our campaign on Wednesday February 18th at 7pm. We will be rallying at Stonewall, because they will not erase us.

Even with these attacks at the federal level, New York City has always been a place where q***r and trans people live and thrive. We know that gender affirming care is life saving care and so we will be fighting to make sure that all trans New Yorkers can access that care. The next phase of our campaign looks to secure state and city funding for public, free, gender affirming care that is safe from the Trump administration.

We have always been here and we are not going away. We are fighting for our own care and we need you to join us.

NO MORE CRUMBS! Food, Housing, and Healthcare for All NOW!

Join us as we rally and march to protest federal government’s threats and attacks on our Safety Net programs! We come together to defend SNAP, Medicaid and housing programs that are a lifeline for our communities! We are building people’s power to make sure that all New Yorkers have access to healthy food, health care and affordable housing.

Safety Net Activists and Safety Net Project, together with Rise and Resist and other partners, are organizing an action on February 28th (Saturday), 12.30pm in front of Harlem Hospital (506 Lenox Ave, New York, NY 10037) to demand a universal and robust Safety Net for all New Yorkers.

As we have seen since January 2025, the current federal administration does not care about Safety Net programs and the welfare of the majority of people who live in the USA. Instead of funding vital programs like SNAP, Medicaid, public housing, the Congress and Trump’s administration are spending billions of dollars on billionairs’ welfare (huge tax cuts for the wealthy, subsides for companies etc.), ICE, wars and genocide.
