Dr. Abbate sprained her ankle… almost broken…anniee
Ankle Sprain Recovery: What We’re Doing to Heal

We talk about my ankle sprain that happened at the park on Monday when I tripped and rolled my ankle inward.

Dr. Abbate helps us assess that it’s not fractured—just a ligament injury—based on my ability to weight bear and walk.

We discuss the treatment we’re doing right now: electric stimulation, ice, elevation above the heart, and rest.

We also explain how to tell the difference between a sprain and a fracture using simple tests like standing and shifting weight on the injured ankle.

Client gave Dr. Abbate a key to her apartment… (.anniee)

Because the intercom hasn’t been working.

And, because the client had hip replacement surgery.

So, it’s not ideal for the client to have to come down to the lobby each visit to let Dr. Abbate into the building.

Now, this is only possible when clients trust us and truly know us.

Typically after months of working together and getting to know each other.

However, is definitely not a requirement to give your concierge doctor of physical therapy a key to your building or your apartment door!

But, it is a signal of the type of relationships and level of trust that we build with our clients over time.

Congratulations to staff physical therapist Dr. Andrew Wolfanger for setting his own personal record (PR) at the 2026 Jersey City Half Marathon!!

Yesterday he set a new PR of 1:32:52 which is a 7:06 pace.

In other words he was ZOOMING, because it’s not easy to maintain that pace for over 13 miles.

Well done Dr. Wolfanger!

Now, if you’re a weekend warrior or serious runner who’s serious about getting assistance for a new training program with accountability and results for an upcoming race…

Then DM us the word “WOLF” 🐺 to see if you might be the right fit.

Left Knee Contusion

With moderate swelling (edema)

Mechanism of injury: Men’s league baseball; sliding into 2nd base head first; front of left knee slamming into the dirt. On Saturday 4/19/2026.

Pain level: 3 out of 10

Knee girth measurements: uninvolved right knee 2 inches above tibial tubercle was 16 inches in circumference, involved left knee 2 inches above tibial tubercle was 17.75 inches in circumference.

So, about 1.75 inches of swelling.

When this video was captured, self-treatment had not yet been initiated.

Why no hair on left knee? Left anterior knee was shaved for the best effects of electrical stimulation and taping.

Self-treatment Game Plan?

✅ Icing while leg elevated.
✅ No prolonged sitting (more walking).
✅ Knee compression sleeve for circulation and swelling management.
✅ Pneumatic compression boots (leg sleeves) while leg is elevated, if tolerable.
✅ Dozens of standing calf raises throughout the day to activate the calf muscle pump for swelling management.
✅ Kinesiotape “V up” around the abrasion for pain relief and to hopefully also assist in swelling management.
✅ Possibly some arnica gel/ointment to the knee.

Today is Sunday and my next men’s league baseball game is Thursday. So, the goal is to be ready for that and hopefully have most, if not all, of the swelling reduced by then.

What am I missing? If this was your knee, what else would you do for it?

How runners can fix their own calf pain…

Eccentric Achilles Tendon Loading for Runners: Preventing Pain and Building Strength

We discuss eccentric Achilles tendon loading exercises using a heel drop technique on a stool to address mid-portion Achilles pain from running. We explain how loading the tendon on the way down, past neutral, helps keep the Achilles strong and resilient against the repetitive stress of running. We cover why Achilles strength and stability are crucial for runners, and what happens when you lack that strength—pain, inflammation, and the need for recovery time. We emphasize that consistently doing these heel drops prevents recurring injuries and keeps the tendon conditioned for the demands of running.

He didn’t cancel the trip because he wanted to.

He canceled because his back made the decision for him.

Flights booked. Bags packed. Kids excited. His wife already picturing the sunsets.

And then… that familiar tightening. Then, the grip of sharp back pain.

That sharp, nagging pain that whispers, “You’re not going anywhere.”

So he did what too many people do…
He smiled, shrugged it off, and said, “We’ll go another time.”

But what he didn’t say was:
“I feel like I just let my family down.”
“I feel weak.”
“I feel older than I should.”

Pain doesn’t just take away your movement.
It takes your confidence. Your identity. Your role.

And the worst part?
Most people accept it.

They tell themselves:
“It’s just part of getting older.”
“I’ll deal with it later.”
“I don’t have time.”

But here’s the truth—backed by decades of clinical evidence:
Most mechanical back pain is highly treatable… often faster than people think… without injections, pills, or surgery.

Which means this story?
It doesn’t have to be yours.

You don’t have to cancel the next trip.
You don’t have to sit on the sidelines.
You don’t have to feel like you’re falling behind in your own life.

At Concierge Pain Relief, we specialize in getting to the root cause—quickly, naturally, and one-on-one—so you can get back to doing what matters most.

Your next vacation shouldn’t be a “maybe.”

If this hits close to home… reach out.
Let’s make sure you don’t cancel the next one.
