Living with Pain and a History of Opioid Use? We’d Like to Hear from You.

We are doing a study to learn how your life affects your pain. We want to understand if things like housing, friends, and going to the doctor shape how people feel pain. You can help us learn more to improve the lives of people with chronic pain. People with pain who are in treatment for opioid use qualify.

Declutter Your Space. Refresh Your Mind.
- A tidy environment supports mental wellness, better focus, and reduced stress
- Fewer piles = fewer allergens and easier cleaning
- Decluttering can even enhance self-esteem, relationships, and sleep quality
- Montefiore recognizes clutter's role in mental health—extreme cases like hoarding are treated through its Psychiatry specialists, and there's trusted support for broader conditions like anxiety and OCD
- Start small, stay consistent, and aim for progress FASTER than perfection

Organize your space to set the stage for a calmer mind—and know that help is available if clutter feels overwhelming.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion — and how to act fast.
Too much heat and not enough hydration can overwhelm your body’s cooling system.

Recognize early warning signs and how to respond:
- Dizziness or fatigue
- Heavy sweating or cool, pale, moist skin
- Nausea or headache

These symptoms mean your body needs a break and it’s time to cool down. Move to a cool place, rest, remove excess layers if possible and drink water or an electrolyte beverage.

If symptoms don’t improve, contact your doctor. If someone faints or seems confused, call 911 immediately—it could be heat stroke, a life-threatening emergency.

Stay cool, stay safe, and take care of yourself during these hot months!

Research published in Blood by Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Marina Konopleva, MD, PhD, points the way to a possible new treatment for post-myeloproliferative neoplasm, a form of acute myeloid leukemia.

Learn more below.

Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Research Brief: Possible New Treatment for Form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Post-MPN AMLis is a condition in which a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) develops into acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Patients with post-MPN AML don’t respond to currently available therapies for either AML or MPN, and those treatment options generally don’t extend survival for more than a year.

In a study published online on March 31 in the journal Blood, Marina Konopleva, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues identified the protein BCL-xL as a potential drug target for post-MPN AML. The researchers found that cells taken from post-MPN AML patients are highly dependent on BCL-xL to survive. They then showed that the experimental drug DT2216—designed to target and degrade BCL-xL without affecting platelets—made cancer cells more likely to die; and that combining DT2216 with azacytidine (a chemotherapy drug used to treat AML) blocked the growth of cancer cells taken from post-MPN AML patients. The findings suggest that DT2216 or a similar BCL-xL-degrading agent could be paired with other treatments to improve outcomes for people with post-MPN AML.

Dr. Konopleva is director of the leukemia program, co-director of the Translational Blood Cancer Institute at the National Cancer Institute-designated Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center and professor of oncology and of molecular pharmacology at Einstein.
