Happy Earth Day everyone! ๐Ÿ˜€๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒž

Hopefully you are able to take time today (and every day) to enjoy all of the health benefits of being outside. We know how important connecting with the outdoors is for our physical and mental well-being, and it is good for the planet too.

So take some time to enjoy the fresh spring air, go for a walk, and give thanks to our planet (Mother Earth) for all the wonderful gifts she provides for us.

Today is Earth Day, a time to focus on ways to preserve and protect our planet, and there are things you can do to not only support the earth but also your health.

Gardening season is coming up. Did you know that gardening is one of the best things you can do during COVID?

This is a link to a research review article I wrote for the good folks over at Natural Medicine Journal, on a study showing the physical and mental health benefits of Gardening during the COVID lockdown last year.

https://www.naturalmedicinejournal.com/journal/2021-04/effects-gardening-physical-and-mental-health-among-older-adults-during-covid-19

Among the measured benefits were improvements in physical health, mental and emotional health & well-being, and quality of sleep.

Other benefits from gardening include reduction of allergies & asthma (from exposure to health-improving soil microbes), increased levels of Vitamin D (from the Sun), multi-generational and cultural connections, and of course delicious & nutritious fruits & veggies! As the saying goes "Gardening is better than therapy, plus you get tomatoes".

Whether you are young or old, gardening is something everyone can do. So if you haven't started planning your garden for this season yet, why not give it a try?

If you have any questions on how to start your garden, or great stories or pictures from your gardening past or present, let me know. We'd love to hear from you!
