Join us this weekend for our monthly support group. - https://mailchi.mp/3579e31ba0f6/join-us-this-weekend-for-our-monthly-support-group

Please join us at our November Virtual La Leche League meetings. This month we will talk more about the basics of breastfeeding! So many of us have "those stories" from the first few weeks home as a new parent. Let's come together as a community and share what we learned, what we wonder, our anxieties, how we settled into our new roles and what we loved about that time in our babies' lives.

Sunday, 11/23 @ 10:0 0a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Planning for Thanksgiving? Don't be a turkey 🦃 -- take a break and nurse🤱 your baby!

🍽️ Let someone else set the table while you breastfeed in a quiet room and recharge.

🥵 Feeling overwhelmed? Your baby probably is, too! Take a break and breastfeed🤱, and give Baby some antibodies against whatever germs are around the table.

🗣️Trying to avoid politics 📺 but someone at the table won't follow the rules? Step away "because Baby needs to nurse!"

Don't get spooked by baby teeth 😬when breastfeeding!

Babies extend their tongue 😛 to cover their bottom gums when nursing, so their bottom teeth are covered too.

If a baby accidentally 🫢bites while teething because their mouth feels funny, just hug them closer into your breast for a second. They'll unlatch to breathe and you can hand them a teething toy or cold spoon 🥄.

If they bite toward the end of a feeding because you're not paying attention👀, try using the same trick and put them down, saying, "No biting, that hurts.🥺"

Next feeding, if you feel baby's suck slowing down↘️, look them in the eye😍. That attention is often all they needed to ward off a bite.

Skin to skin for the win!

👶 Skin-to-skin contact involves placing the naked newborn on the mother’s uncovered chest immediately after birth. This simple practice helps babies adapt to life outside the womb, keeping them warm, reducing stress and crying, and supporting vital functions such as breathing and heart rate.

New Cochrane evidence confirms what many already practice: immediate skin-to-skin contact between newborns and their mothers gives babies a better start in life.

Babies held skin-to-skin within the first hour after birth are more likely to:

🩵 Breastfeed exclusively
🩵 Maintain healthy body temperature and blood sugar
🩵 Breathe and adapt better outside the womb

Importantly, the evidence is now so strong that researchers argue it’s no longer ethical to conduct studies that separate mothers and babies after birth.

“Withholding skin-to-skin contact would now be considered unethical, as there is enough evidence to show that the practice improves newborn health and survival,” says Karin Cadwell, senior author and Executive Director and Lead Faculty of
Healthy Children Project Center for Breastfeeding.

Did you know that waiting✋ till you feel full 💥before nursing can lower⤵️ your milk production? Empty breasts 🫗make more milk faster⤴️ than full ones!

The Feedback Inhibitor🛑 of Lactation (FIL) kicks in when milk isn't removed. That's great to reduce an oversupply...but can tank⤵️ a full milk supply 💯if feeds are scheduled or delayed⏰, instead of offered when baby shows cues🤭✊😚.

If you've already got a full milk supply and are also pumping after each breastfeed, your body gets the message that you've got twins📈 -- because you're feeding your freezer❄️.
