Today is Juneteenth commemorating the the end of slavery in the US. How did emancipation and the aftermath impact your ancestors?

Today is , a day commemorating the announcement of the end of slavery in the U.S.

Happy Independence and Emancipation Day!

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Black-and-white photo. Four Black men and two Black women in early 20th Century dress face the camera. Their expressions are serious, they hold themselves with dignity.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Beyond Vietnam” speech at Riverside Church in New York City, where he offered a radical critique of imperialist war and the injustice of racial capitalism. Dr. King was assassinated exactly one year later (April 4, 1968) on the eve of the launch of the Poor People’s Campaign which would declare poverty a human rights violation. Where were your ancestors (or you) when this happened?
