Menopause is the time in life where the ovaries begin to shut down production of the hormones that regulate cycles and allow for ovulation. At a certain point in life, the o***y runs out of viable eggs and so the production of these hormones is gradually slowed down until ovulation ceases altogether.

A woman is considered to be in menopause when she has not had a period for 12 consecutive months; this natural and vital process, usually occurring between the ages of 45 and 55, signifies the end of estrogen and progesterone production by the ovaries, and is the end of a women’s reproductive years.

During the transition to menopause, changing hormone levels can affect your menstrual cycle and cause symptoms like hot flashes and problems sleeping. A cyst is a fluid-filled sac. They can form anywhere in the body, including on the ovaries and Fallopian tubes.Most ovarian cysts are not a problem. However, some ovarian cysts can grow, becoming large and painful.

Cysts are common and usually non-cancerous (benign).Menopausal women are more likely to develop cancerous cysts or ovarian cancer. Most cysts resolve without causing pelvic pain or other symptoms.

However, if a cyst develops into a large growth, it could twist or rupture and cause severe pelvic pain and bleeding.

What are endometrial polyps?

Endometrial polyps are small, soft growths projecting from the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium). These relatively common fingerlike overgrowths contain glands, stroma, and blood vessels. Endometrial polyps affect both reproductive age and postmenopausal women.

Endometrial polyps can vary greatly in size, from smaller than a grain of rice, to as big as a golf ball. Occasionally women will experience multiple growths at a time.

One of the biggest concerns women with endometrial polyps have is wondering if their growths are cancerous. While some growths that form on the uterus lining can be cancerous, most uterine polyps are not.
