As a therapist based in New York City, I am uniquely positioned to help people navigate the daily pressures that come with living in NYC, pressures that we sometimes don’t even realize we are facing. —I am also spoiled because fall 🍂 in the city is the absolute best.

Take time to enjoy the changing leaves in Central Park. Take time to cozy up in your apartment. Take time for a pumpkin flavored drink or dessert (if that’s your thing).

Toxic positivity frequently disregards the importance of allowing people to voice their thoughts and express their emotions during difficult times. While positivity itself isn’t (obviously) a bad thing, being overly positive in a negative situation can have an adverse effect on one’s mental health. Especially in workplace scenarios!

We are humans. We need space to feel all the feelings, including the negative ones. Even within professional environments!

When employees are unable to openly express their struggles, address overwhelming workloads or feel secure in seeking assistance, sustaining a healthy work environment becomes problematic.

Next time you’re at work, or next time you’re feeling down, check in with yourself to see how you’re being treated.

Any working professional likely feels the strain of achieving a solid work/life balance. There’s one solution—boundaries. But in this case, it can be really hard to set boundaries. Working professionals so easily find themselves at the mercy of their employers’ rules and expectations.

However, setting and maintaining boundaries in your professional environment IS possible (and important). Consider these tips:

▪️Set healthy limits from the get-go.

▪️Define your priorities and explain them to your employer.

▪️Define your limits. Consider hard limits, where there’s no negotiation, and soft limits that can be somewhat flexible.

▪️Check in with yourself. If you can’t achieve the right work/life balance, is this job for you?

▪️Communicate clearly and be consistent.

So what if it is! Therapy is a positive way to enhance your mental wellbeing, so if you’re considering therapy because your friends are currently in therapy…great! It’s a “trend” worth following.

But honestly, therapy is so much more than a trend. It’s a form of treatment that aims to alleviate emotional distress and mental health issues. And it works!

And just like that, summer is over—and it is 💯 okay to be sad about that as you shift into a fall state of mind. And when you’re feeling particularly blue? Look back on the summer memories, then look ahead to all the fun that fall will bring.

Do you have kids? Do your kids challenge everything you’ve ever known about being a parent? Does it feel like you’ve lost all authority or sense of self? 😵‍ You’re not alone. Not at all.

Being a parent is HARD. Believe me, I know. I like to share that experience alongside my expertise and training when I meet with parents with elementary who come to me for therapy. I currently work with parents of elementary through college-age children.

Curious about therapy? 🤔👋 Hi, I’m Ali…Founder and Psychotherapist of Therapy Suite, a boutique psychotherapy practice in New York City. If you’re new here, I thought it’d be fun to share a few key facts about me, more of which you can find on my website:

✔️ I’ve worked in clinics, schools, outpatient settings and have found my true passion in private practice.

✔️ ​​I received my Bachelors in Education from Syracuse University in 2012, and my Masters in Social Work from New York University in 2015.

✔️ My approach to therapy is relatable, warm and straight forward (with a little humor, too)...all to make my clients as comfortable as possible in our sessions.

✔️I live in New York City with my husband and 2.5 year-old kiddo.

✔️I love Pilates as a way to stay healthy and balanced. It’s a great way to clear my mind and stay energized.

We can be so mean to ourselves, can’t we? 😞 Negative self-talk is really damaging to our incredible selves. It’s so easy to put ourselves down when we do something wrong. Or when we don’t succeed on the first try.

We’re our own worst critics!
