Greetings FB Family --Celebrating my 8th Day Woman's History Month Challenge of posting daily, within 24 hours, a dynamic, and transformational woman who has transformed the world in her own way... My next feature is the incredibly talented, indescribably elegant, Madame Judith Jamison --
After Alvin Ailey's death in 1989, Jamison became artistic director of the Ailey troupe and its school. In doing so, she became the first African American woman to direct a major modern dance company. At the age of six, Jamison began taking lessons at the Judimar School of Dance in Philadelphia. She went on to study the techniques of African American dance pioneer Katherine Dunham.n 1980, Jamison performed on Broadway in Duke Ellingtonโs Sophisticated Ladies with Gregory Hines. That same year, Jamison began her own work as a choreographer. She premiered her first ballet, Divining, with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1984. In 1988, Jamison founded The Jamison Project Dance Company. Source: The HistoryMakers.org
QUOTE:
Judith Jamison on taking care of your body ...."I took care of mine as best I could. When youโre older, you can keep it going with smaller movements. Just sitting here, Iโm doing contractions and releases, trying to strengthen my core. You wonโt be moving as robustly as you used to, but you can still do something."
