MEDICAL TIP, especially if you are taking medication or have a loved one who is:
In the past couple of weeks, I've been called upon twice (while not at work) to assess an urgent medical situation. One ended up being critical, the other, gratefully, less so. In both cases, when I asked family members if the person was taking any medications, which would have been extremely helpful to know, the answer was, "Yes, but we don't know which ones."
I'm a firm believer in it is always better to have and not need than to need and not have. Please have the names, doses and start dates (and end dates when applicable) of your meds accessible in case of an emergency. If your family has access, even better. Keeping a list in your phone is great, because most likely you have your phone with you. Anywhere you can find them QUICKLY and EASILY works. If your older parent lives far away, this will be so helpful if you get a phone call from a health care worker.
I've been using my List'm App for things like this. I can share this information with people who I want to have access in private groups. When meds change, everyone has the newest updates automatically on their list. No discussion needed. No confusion. Easy ACCESSIBILITY, which is the key. We know exactly where to find it. Recording stuff in your phone is simple. Retrieving it is often the problem, as we forget if we put it in notes, if we took a screenshot, if we texted it to ourself, etc. Sometimes, time is of the essence.
Start a Health Folder on List'm for things like your family's insurance information, doctors you use frequently, your parent's medication list and a list to keep track of your screening tests and appointments. It is simple, and I need a lot more simple in my life. (It is also free, and I can use more of that as well;) I didn't necessarily create List'm for how it could be used for medical care, but it has been one of the most useful things for my family and me. As a physician, I see a true value add here. You can add lots of detail, or just keep a simple list. Whatever works for you. And, if not on List'm, please find somewhere else to keep track of medications that is very easy to access in case of an emergency.

It is well-proven that when we help other people, our mental health improves and our happiness gets a boost! Recently, lots of people have asked me about volunteer opportunities. If you are in Ridgewood, this list of places in need of volunteers is a great resource to find out where you can spend your time and talent. Download the List'm app for free, and click on this link again, or search "volunteer" after downloading the app.

I made this app because I really wanted a place to save all of the things I needed to remember for myself or to share with friends. It is so incredible to see all these great use cases unfold. If you are planning college visits, check out this compilation of great college recommendations made by students and parents who love their schools - where to stay, where to eat, what to do. You can download the app for free and search "college visits." There are no ads, and it is a healthier way to be social. www.listm.app

I'm sorry this is not a happy, Monday post, but this is a problem we need to face head on with eyes wide open. Every week we hear about children and young adults choosing to end their lives by su***de. We know the American Academy of Pediatrics declared a national emergency in mental health. We acknowledge the problem, but what should we do about it?

I'm so excited my Audible Original was released today! It is for all parents, but there does seem to be something special about the timing of a pre-Mother's Day release. My goal in creating it was to offer an opportunity to sit back, relax and feel better about the way you are parenting now and to be able to joyfully look ahead to years of parenting with more confidence and less guilt! I don't know a mom, including myself, who wouldn't benefit from that. You can download it now only on Audible

Check out this great listen on Audible.com. Parents everywhere, hear this: You can calm down, take a breath, stop worrying, and do more for your kids by doing less. They will survive, thrive, and later thank you for giving them freedom. And you’ll enjoy raising them in a happier, more peacef...
