Feeling tighter or achier now that it’s colder out? You’re not imagining it- lower temps can reduce blood flow, tighten muscles, and even make old injuries flare up.

But the good news? A few simple habits can keep you feeling mobile and pain-free all winter long! Try performing dynamic warm-ups before participating in sport or exercise. Dynamic warm-ups are meant to increase blood flow and muscle flexibility and include any consistent movement such as jogging/hopping/light exercise, etc.

Injured patients often make 3 common mistakes while rehabbing an injury.

1) Resting too much can cause joints to stiffen and delay the healing process. Therapeutic exercise and movement enables our joints to self lubricate (avoid stiffening up) and increases general blood flow to help the healing process.

2) Pushing through pain, or ‘rubbing dirt on it’ often makes the situation worse. Physical Therapists are trained to help patients manage and work through pain, if necessary, in a safe environment.

3) Evidence shows that skipping or delaying physical therapy treatment will often prolong the injury’s rehabilitation timetable.

Not all stretching is the same!

👉 Dynamic stretching = controlled movement to warm up your muscles before activity.
👉 Static stretching = holding a position to relax and recover after.

Knowing when to use each helps you move better, prevent injury, and recover faster.
