This last year-and-a-half has certainly been challenging, as we all try our best to adjust to this new normal. We cannot change what is taking place, but we can help people get through their most difficult times. Samaritans volunteers change the lives of the people they help and their own! This last year-and-a-half has certainly been challenging, as we all try our best to adjust to this new normal. The CDC reports tremendous increases in anxiety, depression and, of course, isolation, which is a leading risk factor for su***de.

At the heart of Samaritans philosophy is the belief that “if you are afraid of the dark, it’s better to be sitting holding someone’s hand than sitting alone.” Sometimes you just need someone to talk to. Someone you can trust, who listens and does not judge you.

$10 is the cost of one life-saving call to Samaritans 24-hour Su***de Prevention Hotline.
Samaritans does not have major celebrities supporting our work, no star athletes, no flashy marketing campaigns. We work quietly, behind the scenes, dedicating our time and resources to serving people in need.

When you donate to Samaritans you know where your money goes.

All donations are tax-deductible.

Samaritans hotline volunteers are truly remarkable individuals. Their compassion for others and dedication to su***de prevention demonstrates the highest degree of service to our community.

90% of an iceberg is below the waterline. If it was just what we could see, the Titanic would never have sunk.

What we see as the tip of the iceberg sits on top of a person's personal experiences, education, culture, genetics, trauma, family history, psychological make-up, relationships, etc. When we assume what we can see is the reality of someone's situation, we miss the big picture.

Check up on those around you. Join Samaritans challenge, call 5 people in your life to check in on their wellbeing and nominate them to call 5 more!

At Samaritans we say no person is one thing, when we label we dismiss. No one thing defines a person, not their job, their relationships, their culture, their gender identity, their sexual orientation, and not their diagnosis. These can be a part of who someone is, but the whole is much greater than the sum of these parts.

At Samaritans we know the value of a phone call. 24-hours a day our hotline volunteers hear the voices of people doing their best to cope. Day and night we listen, we care and we are there to provide support.

One of Samaritans core beliefs is that “if you’re afraid of the dark, it’s better to be sitting holding someone’s hand than sitting alone.” Sometimes you just need someone to talk to. An individual you can trust, who listens to your concerns without judging them, and who helps you feel heard.

Reach out and connect with someone in your life. Take the time to ask them "how are you doing?" and really LISTEN to what they have to say.
