It's hard for me to believe that 2024 is coming to a close. Harder, still, to believe that I haven't been present here in over a year.

This past year I focused on sending my newsletter weekly and I'm proud to say I achieved that goal.

I also want to share information, resources, and inspiration with you here and I intend to do that in 2025.

I needed this reminder. Thought it might help you, too.

I've got a lot going on. I'm happy, excited, anxious, and a little overwhelmed. With all those feelings, I needed to remind myself to take time for some deep, grounding breaths today.

When you have lots of feelings swirling in your body, do you reach for (or run to buy) the nearest candy bar? Oh, I so get that. I did that for years (who am I kidding -- it was decades!).

I promise you taking a few minutes to feel your feelings and breathe deeply will benefit you a lot more than any relief you'll get from the fleeting sugar high.

Put the word "breathe" in the comments and I'll send you a few journal prompts to encourage you to take some deep breaths and relax.

Can you imagine your life without struggling with emotional eating? Everything you can imagine is real ~ Pablo Picasso.

A life of peace with food and your body is possible.

So many coaches and gurus will tell you to "do this" and "do that" and follow these "exact steps" to stop your emotional eating.

But the journey is such a personal one. It is not linear. It takes twists and turns.

Don't doubt your ability to overcome what might seem impossible right now.

The struggle is real. I know. I've been there. And I've had the honor to guide and support clients to find their joy -- to discover self-love and be comfortable in their own skin.

What can you do today that your future self will thank you for?

I love this James Clear quote: Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.

Does that mean you need to be perfect? Absolutely not. It means you want to be aware. You want to be mindful.

I know that "mindful" might seem like an overused word, or cliche, but used in a positive way, it's quite powerful.

As an emotional eater who seeks to discover self-love and make peace with food and your body, you want to make plans and establish routines that will support your efforts to achieve those goals.

Be mindful of your actions so you understand what supports your health and well-being. You will then feel supported to let go of the self-sabotaging behavior that has ruled your life.

I know the journey ahead feels overwhelming, perhaps impossible, but I promise it's not. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it, YES!

This guy has a purpose.

Jalen Hurts has a lot of critics, but that's not what motivates him. He's not out to prove his critics wrong. His purpose is to continue to get better, to be the best football player he can be.

He's been through a lot of adversity. I remember watching the game when he was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa. Hurts was so classy. My heart hurt for him.

Fast forward to last night -- playing in the Super Bowl.

I know. I know. The Philadelphia Eagles lost the Super Bowl last night. But Jalen Hurts will be back in the big game. He is made for greatness. How do I know this?

Because he has a purpose. He is using that purpose to tune out the opinions others have of him and focus on his goals.

How does all of this relate to you? As an emotional eater, I bet you often put aside your purpose and your needs in order to please others.

Do you know what he said after losing the big game last night? "You either win or you learn," Hurts said after the loss. "It's something that I know will motivate me."

It's time for you to shine like Jalen Hurts. Let your purpose guide you, not other people's expectations of you. Keep in mind winning is awesome, and so is learning. On those days when you feel like you are taking a step back in your struggle to end emotional eating, there are lessons to learn. You aren't "bad" or "stupid" for those backward steps. It's important to seek out -- and learn from -- the lesson(s).

What's your favorite way to connect with a friend?

For me, time in a coffee shop is relaxing.

Connecting with friends is such an important part of ending your struggle with emotional eating. Sharing your highs and lows and what's happening in your life with a non-judgmental friend can comfort you when necessary, and help build your self-esteem and confidence.

I know that often times you may feel like keeping to yourself and suffering in silence. That feels easier. But it can ultimately be more harmful to your health and well-being.

Who can you trust? Who do you feel comfortable talking to these days? Make a plan to connect. The time together will put a smile on your face.
