Welcome to Threshold, a boutique private gym facility located in West Chelsea, offering one-on-one instruction in a unique setting - a completely private, meditative, art-filled environment.

The surroundings reflect the philosophy- close personal attention with an emphasis on the role of mental focus in the health of body and mind. Services include Super Slow Weight Training, Holistic Health Counseling, Thai-Yoga Massage and Movement Practices. The unique ambience is a welcome alternative to other gyms, it's a white-washed artist's loft accented with burgundy walls, Moroccan doors and Persian rugs- an original vision for rough-hewn luxury - expert training, advanced scientific methods, quality equipment but in a private room with no tv, no treadmills, no music and no mirrors. SUPER-SLOW HIGH INTENSITY EXERCISE INSTRUCTION
Threshold specializes in Slow Training. The fundamental key to this training is moving very slowly throughout a full range of motion until one experiences momentary fatigue. We call this momentary fatigue "the Threshold", which is a combination of physiological and psychological expectations being pushed to some limit. We help our clients move beyond those thresholds into unknown and exciting territory each time we work together. In a focused 30-45 minute session using state of the art rehabilitative weight training equipment designed by Med-X and Super-Slow Systems each client is taken through a full body work-out designed to address their specific goals and health concerns. It is a highly effective approach for achieving results with weight reduction and body toning while sharpening mental focus. Slow training provides a safe, time efficient and highly rigorous work out. We believe that awareness in exercise changes weight-lifting into a practice in mindfulness. Our unique approach has helped our clients to achieve a level of physical and emotional health previously unknown to them, enabling them to overcome personal barriers in all aspects of their lives. HOLISTIC HEALTH COUNSELING
Threshold offers nutritional counseling to support clients in making balanced choices and changes surrounding food and lifestyle. Mindfulness practices are taught as a way to develop inner awareness of the body and its nutritional needs. A personal nutritional program is designed based on gender, age, height, weight, culture, metabolism, and level of physical activity. We believe that our bodies are designed to need natural, whole foods, exercise and love. 45 minute session. THAI YOGA MASSAGE
A one-and-a-half hour session that begins with a foot bath and foot massage. The practitioner moves you into yogic postures and deep stretches on a cushioned mat on the floor then applies acupressure-like massage along opened meridians that can lead to deep healing and relaxation. MOVING into CONSCIOUSNESS
In a practice also known as authentic movement or contemplative dance, the practitioner acts as a witness to the moment-to-moment unfolding as the client follows impulses to move or be still. With eyes closed and attention turned inward the client is invited to explore. The 45 minute private session in an open movement studio is divided into 25 minutes moving and 20 minutes dialoging. This is an approach for working with thoughts and feelings in a physical setting. It is not a substitute for therapy but it is therapeutic. Lowell Boyers 'just do the exercise the zen will be there'

When you have trauma the hyaluronic acid thickens and adheres to the fascia causing inflexibilty,  neuropathy, acute and chronic aches and pain.

The practitioner assesses the centers of coordination that cause the pains..they are multiple points in the body,  and applied pressure and friction on these points, in a formal method of approach,  alleviates and begins to eliminate and eliminates the causes of the pain.

The stecco method of Myofascial manipulation therapy is an extraordinary vehicle for physical therapy and healing. It is designed to not merely alleviate temporary symptoms of discomfort, but, instead, it's method is directed to remove the causes and conditions of whatever affliction the patient suffers. It is a very deep therapy, and sometimes it can be uncomfortable to receive the work. However, the temporary discomforts are worth the results which are so profound that I feel blessed to be able to help my clients get rid of their chronic pain. The combination of pressure and friction of centers of coordination in the body dissolves the causes and conditions/various traumas to the body.

We have to cultivate this appetite for rigor. We have to be smart about it. We need to be both humble and courageous. This is important. Each time we exercise we have to know that it’s meant to be difficult. What does that mean for us? It means that we might get some butterflies in our bellies before we begin, anticipating the need to push hard. That’s normal. If you’re not a wee bit nervous before exercise it probably isn’t really demanding enough. And in that quality of demand of ourselves we enter humbly, knowing that we will push until we can’t go any more, but eventually it’ll stop. It has to. We rest humbly with acceptance. We also take courage with us when we exercise. Despite the challenges we have set for ourselves we calmly take our seat at the table of our ambition and push. This is no small thing that we’re describing. Having the courage to adhere to the formal discipline, moving gracefully, slowly, methodically, to as full a range a motion as our bodies will allow, to a point of some momentary fatigue, and doing this with each exercise until the whole body’s energy has been challenged and brought so close to “zero” is very special! Courage and humility… We need this in all we do, Not merely our exercise.., but it’s really important to have our hearts and mind full of this quality.

To cultivate rigor we cultivate a strong mind, and each expression of discipline becomes food and constructive habit that you can rely on for the rest of your life.

Exercise is something you want to do with mindful intention. The fewer distractions you have the greater inroads you will manifest with your efforts. We encourage a slow tempo (15 to 20 second repetitions) moving to full range of motion, gracefully transitioning from extension to flexion without hitching, ratcheting, or pause, until momentary fatigue. Momentary fatigue is that cultivated rigor that is when the practitioner cannot push or pull or press any longer... that is a movable quality that we push against every time we exercise. That's why I call my business "THRESHOLD FITNESS BEYOND THE PHYSICAL "
