It is a virtue to accept the idea that people need people not for the influence, political leverage, and social significance that they add to their lives. Rather, when others are attracted by the basic mutuality of sharing a significant degree of equity, then can humanity speak to what is right and truly benefit the world at large. Our present condition speaks to this and challenges us to act in concerted ways.

How is your team functioning during this crisis? Does your team embody the strength of a shared mission and a vision that can always be expanded beyond the current pandemic? Has your leader stepped up in a calm, precise manner? Competent leaders make a difference during times of crisis.

It’s fascinating that individuals and organizations throughout the United States and internationally have begun to place greater emphasis on the value of leadership in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. The level of tolerance for the ‘get it done at whatever cost’ attitude that relegated and minimized the worth of people is slowly being eliminated.

Throughout the world when disaster strikes many individuals are prone to providing assistance in whatever way possible. This was quite evident during the Katrina Hurricane devastation in New Orleans and Louisiana. When called upon to assist, people will come even if they are not receiving monetary compensation. The “common good” is still valid during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are experiencing aspects of leadership at its best.

When situations get worse it calls for us as Individuals, Couples, Families, Neighborhoods, Communities, Counties, Parishes, Regions, States, Countries, Continents and the World to be at our best. We are our greatest human asset, after God.

Some organizations have begun to see the sense in developing a work culture that embodies accountability that is not only ethnically inclusive, but one that also recognizes the many great ideas. These ideas bring about overall success in all areas of policy and programmatic development. It absolutely takes a diverse workforce to achieve real success.

The burden that some administrators and leaders face with employees who take credit for great work but refer problems to their managers is pervasive. However, when leaders begin to assume the responsibility for their organization’s action or inaction, their acceptance of responsibility serves to awaken a similar sense of responsibility with other employees and the buy-in begins.

During these trying times it is pivotal for leaders to formulate working partnerships with each other and by definition their supervisees/workers, in order to achieve the intended outcome of lifting the standards and protocols of the agency, in an ever changing environment.

As staff and team meetings increase, not-for-profit leaders, in particular, will need to be authentic with their staff, and clearly demonstrate the importance of safety to them, and of course to the clients that they serve. Supporting their ideas as relevant and assuring the staff that there will be continuous feedback of their ideas and suggestions to combat the Coronavirus will continue to ensure that their input will be lasting and significant after the pandemic is over.

During these trying times, many organizations have re-
established worth through not only the product that they put out on the market, the service that they render, the innovation that they highlight, but moreover the people that they impact. People, in essence, have become the greatest asset to organizational investment. Many organizations have recognized that their transformation from mediocrity to trendsetter status begins with their investment in the people that work for the organization’s mission, vision, and the public-at-large.
