I created this page for the moms / dads, family member, care giver who have a child (young / adult) who have a developmental disability, whether its neurological, emotional, mental.... we wear many hats, we have worn many shoes in different sizes to work it, to get what needed, to do what has to get done.
When I'm at the crossroads to make a decision, I always ask myself if this were me, how would I want to be treated, for what needs to be done for their best interest....This page provides you the support, the resources for your need.
If we dont have knowledge of where to turn for what needed at that moment, it can be a breaking point to feel broken, lost, alone.... we are never alone as I have come to experience.
Many of our children have autism who may not have a voice to be heard, but we learn to understand them thru their needs, wants, their body language.
I was fortunate to work with students who learning disability was of autism, so it provided me the opportunity to learn how to communicate, to understand, to help the student feel validated.
I will say, I know for many families it very difficult behind close doors when their child act out their frustration in negative behavior of such anger.
Not wearing the shoes of your experience cant understand but someone offering you compassion, empathy, does help lesser the aloneness feeling you feel.
As a friend who does not wear the shoes of life I have worn replies when I said; god gives us what we can handle, I wish he would stop...she replied; he must think your a bad ass because your still here doing what has to be done.
Life is about creating healthier choices to be a healthier happier you!
