⭐️ Nurses Week Highlights ⭐️
Nurses are the most trusted profession and it is important that we provide continuing education so that our knowledge and skills are current and evidence-based to address the complex needs of our healthcare system.
Special thanks to these incredible nurses who took time out of their busy schedules to provide expertise and inspiring content for the Northeast Regional Conference 2025. The overall feedback was nothing short of amazing and Nurses were able to reflect on their own practice and advocacy. As Assistant Regional Director, I designed 4 CE tracks with a focus on our theme of nursing innovation and health equity: Clinical, Academia, Population Health, and Policy. Conference attendees receive 16.0 + 0.5 Advanced Pharm Contact Hours for completing all lectures that were available on demand.

Spring has been VERY busy! Perfect timing with National Nurses Week 2025 soon approaching to share some Spring highlights. I was elected as the Northeast Assistant Regional Director for Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. I am proud to continue leading the Northeast Region in support of our Northeast Region Director, Dr. Akia Blandon. I also received the Daisy Award and want to thank everyone who nominated me and recognized my work. I have been a member of Chi Eta Phi since 2008, very early in my Nursing career and the experiences have shaped my Nursing journey. The journey has also afforded me the opportunity to meet amazing Nurses throughout our country who are dedicated to improving health in our communities. I take pride in our motto for “Service for Humanity” and look forward to continue to elevate the plane of nursing in honor of our courageous Nurse Founders. Let the work continue on this marathon…..

🗣️🗣️ BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH MATTERS🗣️🗣️ Today, I attended the Rally for Tenisha Evans, a 24-year-old mother who died just days after giving birth to twin sons via C-section at St. John’s Hospital in Far Rockaway. WHEN WILL THIS END? THIS IS NOT NORMAL! The U.S. continues to have THE WORST maternal health outcomes amongst developed nations. We also have THE LOWEST # of OBGYNs and Midwives providers to serve our birthing population. Black women continue to face significant challenges and encounter systemic racism as evidence by the continued disparities in morbidities and mortalities. Enough is enough! We will continue to advocate and fight until these preventable maternal and infant deaths end.
For point of reference, there are countries with ZERO maternal deaths reported in an annual year.

February has been quite a busy Black History Month for sure. Over 400 Nurses and Nursing Students at the 37th Day on Capitol Hill of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc. Since 1988, NBNA has hosted, National Black Nurses Day on Capitol Hill, to educate the U.S. Congress on the nursing shortage, the nursing profession, and health care disparities. This amazing policy day was an excellent demonstration of the collective power of Nurses to advocate for healthier communities.
Policy topics reviewed included:
Addressing the Global Crisis of Black Maternal Mortality
Supporting Diversity in the Nursing Workforce
Artificial Intelligence for Global Health Equity
Economic Wellness to Promote Global Health Equity
Saving Our Planet: Climate Change

I had a great time presenting at the NPACE conference in Las Vegas, as well as watching my mentor Dr. Fields speak as the Keynote. It is truly a Blessing to be able to speak to providers and healthcare leaders on maternal health innovation, clinical guidelines, and patient advocacy. The conference was well-organized and had a diverse variety of topics.

I was honored to be inducted as a Fellow into the New York Academy of Medicine (FNYAM)!
The New York Academy of Medicine’s Fellows are a community of distinguished professionals who share NYAM’s commitment to achieving health equity. This Academy was founded in 1847 by a group of physicians who took action regarding the healthcare and public health problems that affect people in New York City and beyond. I am grateful for the recognition for my contributions to improving health outcomes for the communities I have served throughout my nursing career. In addition, I continue to work towards maternal health equity, reproductive justice, and safer birthing.
Special thanks to my Sponsors and supporters: Dr. Selena Gilles, DNP, ANP-BC, CNEcl, ANEF, FNYAM, FADLN, FAANP, FAAN
