Big Congrats to Annie Frisbie, MA, IBCLC, PMH-C (she/her)
Founder of City Lactation, Annie became an IBCLC in 2011 and earned her Perinatal Mental Health Certification in 2023. Her journey began after her first child’s birth in 2007, inspiring her to volunteer with La Leche League and eventually lead meetings in Queens from 2009–2016.

In 2019, she launched City Lactation to build a collaborative practice. Annie also co-hosts the Lactation Business Coaching podcast and creates tools, trainings, and CE for private practice IBCLCs.

A nationally recognized speaker and expert in HIPAA, tech in healthcare, and lactation business, Annie received USLCA’s President’s Award in 2018. She’s also a proud NYLCA member, screenwriter, and mom of two teens (plus cats Frank & Roxie!).

What drives her? “I really do think every baby is the cutest—and every family’s story matters.” Check Annie out at

NYLCA is proud to recognize Ario as our Spotlight Member for Black History Month! Your dedication to advancing lactation support and improving maternal-child health is truly inspiring. As we celebrate Black history and the vital contributions of Black IBCLCs, we honor your commitment to ensuring families receive equitable, compassionate, and expert care.

Thank you for your leadership, passion, and the impact you continue to make in our community. We are so proud to have you as a valued member of NYLCA!

“What excites me about lactation: Seeing the satisfaction on a parent’s face when they accomplish their breastfeeding goals. Families are bombarded by a billion dollar commercial industry that makes women/mothers feel that they are not enough to satisfy their baby. Every day that I could provide support that helps families to reach their goals for exclusive breastfeeding I feel that my small contribution in the world is worth it.” Ario C. Pierre Sutton.

Spring is here, and it’s time to open applications for the Equity and Diversity IBCLC Exam Fee Scholarship!

The New York Lactation Consultant Association Equity and Diversity Scholarship was created to reduce the barriers to accessing the field of lactation for BIPOC communities in New York. We recognize that there is a tremendous need to diversify the pool of individuals providing lactation care to reflect the community in which they serve.

It is with this aim that we cultivated the creation of this scholarship. We believe that everyone should have access to high quality and culturally responsive lactation care. We further believe that it is important to provide culturally responsive care to meet the diversity of needs that New York families require during their prenatal and postpartum infant feeding journeys.

This scholarship will provide a full scholarship to cover the cost of taking the initial IBCLC examination (no other costs will be covered).
