Harold Kushner is a rabbi at Temple Israel Massachusetts. After he lost his 14 year old son to a devastating rare genetic disease that causes rapid aging, he wrote his books “when bad things happen to good people” , “ Living a life that matters” and “When all you’ve ever wanted is not enough”. In his books he features the dilemma of better dealing with evil that enters life. As a religious person he believed before his tragedy that the world was a fair place. What a difficulty for a religious figure to create a new system of faith. The faith he is coming with is that God can’t stop bad things from happening. We can’t rely on him to change our suffering. God can provide strength during difficult times but us and the circles of people around us are left to do the hard work. Prayer for example can’t influence god to change the outcome but it can brings families and communities close together. Unfortunately, everyone will have to deal with hardships sometimes during their lives and the Corona which inflicted all human beings in our universe is a painful example. When sad events surprise us, we need to find a way to make sense and purpose so we don’t feel bitter and defeated. Easier said than done 😊 The dedication of the Israeli community and others to the health care first responders is a good example to that. Trying to make the best of your free time is another. Breath, reflect and count your blessings every day. I am doing video sessions and would love you to connect. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help but can’t afford sessions at the moment. ❤️
