Momentum is building. This week, lawmakers in New Jersey advanced a bill that would allow therapeutic access to psilocybin for adults, recognizing its potential to treat depression, trauma, addiction, and other conditions where conventional care has fallen short.

Testimony from clinicians, researchers, and veterans underscored a critical truth: psychedelic-assisted therapy is not about recreation, it’s about preparation, supervision, integration, and healing at the root.

Via the New Jersey Monitor:

"Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, the drugs now commonly used to treat many mental health disorders, 'aren’t doing enough,' said Jesse MacLachlan of Reason for Hope, a national su***de-prevention nonprofit that supports expanding access to psychedelic-assisted therapies.

'We see that in the form of a veteran su***de crisis, where 22 to 40 veterans are lost to either su***de or substance-related deaths every single day,' MacLachlan said. “And that drives our determination to make a change.' He called psilocybin 'the next great breakthrough in psychiatry.'"
