DID YOU KNOW?…
That when we use the word Camel, we are most often referring to the creature which is really the Dromedary.
Over 90 percent of these “humped” desert-dwellers sport only one single, well-developed fat pad on their back. The other variety, located in Central Asia and parts of India are called Bactrim Camels and are distinguished by two prominences.
At any rate, these camelids are fascinating creatures that have been at the center of commercial activities and played an important role in food production for centuries in North Africa, the Middle East and other regions.
As residents of the Sahara they have biological adaptations that permit them to thrive in the sandy and arid conditions amongst the sand dunes, including “closable” nostrils, long eyelashes, and extra window-wiper eyelids to beat the dust and heat.
So, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll just gallop off, and catch up with my “Caravan”!
