Several years ago, my Charity Band, Pet-Rox performed on the USS Intrepid in New York City. The event was to honor the efforts of the search and rescue dogs who worked at Ground Zero after the tragic events of 9/11.

The keynote speaker at that event was none other than the great, Dr. Jane Goodall, world famous ethologist and primate researcher. Dr. Goodall’s research on the nature and manner of communication in the lives of Chimpanzees was groundbreaking and shed a new light on the cognitive abilities of the primate species that live on our planet.

Thank you Dr. Goodall for providing us with your special scientific insight that helped make the complexity, beauty and wonder of our world ever more accessible:..

DID YOU KNOW?…

That when we use the word Camel, we are most often referring to the creature which is really the Dromedary.

Over 90 percent of these “humped” desert-dwellers sport only one single, well-developed fat pad on their back. The other variety, located in Central Asia and parts of India are called Bactrim Camels and are distinguished by two prominences.

At any rate, these camelids are fascinating creatures that have been at the center of commercial activities and played an important role in food production for centuries in North Africa, the Middle East and other regions.

As residents of the Sahara they have biological adaptations that permit them to thrive in the sandy and arid conditions amongst the sand dunes, including “closable” nostrils, long eyelashes, and extra window-wiper eyelids to beat the dust and heat.

So, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll just gallop off, and catch up with my “Caravan”!

Less than “shell-shocking” behind the scenes moments from the turtle race:

A locker-room pep talk between the carapaced-competitors and the eagerness of one athlete to vault the heights of his basketed-boundries!

Btw, a carapace is a fancy name for the turtles top shell. The plastron, is their bottom.
