In 2023, the theme of this recognition day is, “Ear and hearing care for all!”

Emily, our 4th year intern, shows us how easy it is to stay informed of her hearing health 🧏🏼‍♀️

On World Hearing Day 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) will highlight the importance of integrating ear and hearing care within primary care, as an essential component of universal health coverage.

Hearing screenings are incredibly important to identify kids with hearing loss whom were not identified at birth, or may have developed hearing loss later in childhood, or were possibly lost to follow-up.

Yesterday, our specialized team of Pediatric Audiologists took their diagnostic skills to the borough of Brooklyn! They had the fulfilling & joyous opportunity to give back, dedicating their day performing hearing👂🏼screenings on pre-schoolers 👧🏻👦🏾.

Evan Lopez, age 19, was born with atresia/microtia of the right ear. Microtia (when the ear/ears do not fully develop), occurs in approximately one out of every 8,000 to 10,000 births. There is no known cause, but can occur during the first trimester of pregnancy.

While Evan was born differently, him and his family always knew he’d live a full life of great success. It was Evan's family’s mission to learn and support him in any way possible. They committed to countless doctor appointments, surgeries, therapies, and visits with his audiologist to help support his intense hearing loss journey.

After many years of a bone anchored hearing aids on a softband, Evan and his family made the decision to embark on a bonebridge surgery with Dr. Maura Cosetti. On Evan's birthday and with the support of his mother and audiologist Randi Tepper, Au.D, the team embarked on yet another milestone - activation day.

On November 9th, National Atresia Microtia Awareness Day, Evan and his family wanted to share the importance of this day and let everyone know it is possible to achieve your dreams when life hands you hearing challenges.

Fabulous Friday indeed! A Joint Venture!! Today Dr. Aldo Londino, Pediatric Otolaryngologist, & Dr. Randi Tepper, Supervisor of Pediatric/CI Audiology, successfully completed their first joint 👂🏼case at the Annenburg campus. Dr. Tepper & her team routinely complete these ABRs downtown, but today they had the ability to collaborate and to bring their knowledge & expertise to another campus within the Mount Sinai system!
