This is Certified Hand Therapist and OT Madison. She uses cupping as one tool to support patient’s healing and recovery. People think she’s cool. People think cupping is cool. People are correct. 💫
There’s also science behind both these thoughts.
1. Madison is extraordinarily skilled in the treatment of upper extremities (shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand).
2. When used strategically, cupping is very effective. 💫
In the case pictured, Madison utilized the method for a patient with ulnar nerve compression exhibiting symptoms and getting pain all the way into his hand. The cups increase blood flow, decompress the area around the nerve, and restructure the fascia....all very cool! 💫

Many activities & sports we participate in need stability with lateral (side to side) movements. This exercise provides strength and stability to the inside and outside of the legs along with reinforcing balance. 💫
It is a seemingly SIMPLE but MIGHTY (my favorite kind ♥️) exercise - solid cross training exercise for running; or to improve turns on the slopes, and the list goes on. 💫
It’s important to note, there’s remarkable thoughtfulness and strategy in the exercises prescribed by your Flex Doctor of Physical Therapy. In addition to using your own body as its best tool (no gimmicks or fad equipment): and considering which body part to target (which isn’t always the one presenting the symptom); we also identify whether the exercise should be passive or active; tightening or relaxing, etc. It’s critical to see a PT who approaches healing in this way to ensure long lasting and complete results.💫

When winter hits, I find it helpful to embrace the season’s strengths. This looks like rocking cozy hats; practicing snow cannonballs; and supporting my family’s love of skiing (I’ll be cheering them on from the bottom of the mountain!). 🌬❄️

FOUNDER FOCUS style. This is Robert Giffin. He is Dr. Joel’s paternal grandfather, and one could argue a reason for Flex.
Apart from their:
- uncanny resemblance (genetics are 🤯)
- admiration for tough self sufficient broads with J names 🤗
- subtle but nonetheless impactful charm
They have entrepreneurship in common. Robert started his own architecture firm with his wife Joanne managing the behind the scenes (books, dreams, deadlines).
It’s nearly impossible to drive through Curwensville, PA (near the Nittany Lions) without encountering a building he designed.
When it came time to take chance, risk, roll the dice we always considered what Joel’s grandparents would do or say. They’ve since passed but their spirit lives on in us and Flex.
And at the forefront is our founding principle: do the right thing. When we do the right thing, we trust things will work out right. Because, after all it was the right thing to do. 😍 We are 3rd generation no gimmicks, lots of heart.

With the recent much-needed attention turning towards ergonomics in the office, we are receiving a lot of questions about how to stay more active during a long workday when much of the job requires sitting at a desk. M is for Monday and motivation and memories and miles and Modest Mouse.
Last night, Joel and I FaceTimed with our very dear friend. She is a soul sister. I knew her in a past life. I’ll know her in the next one. No matter how many miles apart, or how long it’s been since the radio played Float On our friendship is peas and carrots, peas and pods, peas (✌🏼) and love.
She listened on with patience and care the way she always does (whether I’m talking about a tough moment, a new shoe or Joel’s chiming in from the background) when we shared unsolicited advice to alleviate her hip and lower back pain.
The tip is: it can be helpful to do trigger point release and roll out the glutes to decrease hip and or low back pain. This can be done with a trigger point ball or lacrosse or tennis ball. Swipe 👉🏼 to see Dr. Joel demo.
