Hudson Guild

Hudson Guild Since its founding in 1895, Hudson Guild has been building a community in Chelsea and beyond!

Hudson Guild is a multi-service community center serving those who live, work or go to school in Chelsea, with a focus on those in need. Our work helps knit together a dynamic and multi-faceted community, supporting and empowering individuals as they pursue their personal, family, health, and professional goals. Our activities provide a stable “home away from home” for learning and development, and a safety net for people in economic distress. Building on our roots in the settlement house tradition, Hudson Guild takes an integrated, holistic approach to providing our services and building community. With offerings as varied as community service projects for at-risk teens, mental health counseling for low-income individuals, wellness presentations for seniors and art gallery exhibitions, the Guild works to address and engage the range of needs for its participants.

Last Chance to Make an Impact on Giving Tuesday!
www.HudsonGuild.org/GivingTuesday

This , we ask for your support as we continue our critical work to combat food insecurity in our community. This year, your generosity has helped us make meaningful progress in addressing food insecurity through initiatives such as:

| Emergency Food Support: Provided more than $34,000 in grocery store gift cards to 81 families, many of whom faced recent changes to their supplemental food benefits.

| Senior Food Bag Program: Completed a successful 12-week season in collaboration with , offering bags of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables for just $10 to help make healthy food more accessible to older adults in our community.

| Hot Community Meals: This fall, Hudson Guild has served thousands of meals to individuals, families, and groups of friends of all ages during the holiday season through daily meals and events like our Back to School Bash, Halloween Monster Mash, Community Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving Day lunch. We will be open on Christmas for a joyful meal and celebration.

| Non Perishable Food and Turkey Giveaway: Distributed hundreds of non-perishable dry goods and free turkeys to families across the community.

Your donation this Giving Tuesday will allow us to continue these essential efforts and expand our support for those experiencing food insecurity. Together, we can ensure that every member of our community has access to healthy, reliable food.

Real Stories of Impact: How Hudson Guild Adapts to Community Needs
www.HudsonGuild.org/GivingTuesday

On this , we want to share the impact your support has on our community. While we provide food assistance when urgent needs arise, our work includes Arts, Older Adult Services, Community Building, Early Childhood Education, Mental Health Services, Youth Development and Education, Employment Support, and Supportive Housing.

| “Hudson Guild provides so many supports and services to me and my community, from food and nutrition, to health and movement classes, to learning and social activities. These make a huge difference for me and my entire community.” — Participant, Hudson Guild Adult Services

| “Hudson Guild is more than an afterschool program. They host community meals and celebrations and help ensure that my children are fed and focused, which matters more than words can say for a parent managing limited resources. With recent cuts to food assistance, this has been an important support for our family. The Guild supported me with grocery store gift cards so that I could continue to nourish my family.” — Parent, Hudson Guild After School Program

Your support gives us the flexibility to adapt to our neighbors’ evolving needs and continue delivering the essential food resources that help families build stability and well-being.

The (Secret) Garden, an installation by Yuko Uchida, is up at Hudson Guild Gallery, 441 West 26th Street, through November 19.

The installation inspired by the artist’s engagement with the spirit of nature and folklore, expressed through her style of fantasy narrative. The installation uses painting, sculpture, and recycled materials to explore themes related to our collective hope for the environment. The philosophy of Japanese animism – the belief that all of nature has a life force – deeply informs the project.

In conjunction with the show, we held workshops for participants of all ages from the community where they created their own “creatures” inspired by nature and daily life, to express their environmental hopes. The creatures crafted during the workshops are now integrated into the installation on display.

Viewing Hours:
Tuesdays - Fridays 10:00AM - 6:00PM
& Saturdays 12:00pm-3:00pm

Join us on Monday, October 20th at 6:30pm at Hudson Guild Elliott Center, 441 West 26th Street, for a book talk with Eve M. Kahn about her new biography, Queen of Bohemia Predicts Own Death. RSVP for free at https://bit.ly/4nwU9jN . For any questions, please email newsletter@hudsonguild.org.

Zoe Anderson Norris was a woman ahead of her time. A Kentucky-born belle turned fearless Manhattan journalist, Zoe (as everyone called her) used her pen as a weapon in the fight for justice. From exposing slumlords and corrupt politicians to advocating for impoverished immigrants, she captured the injustices of her era with a wit and tenacity that still resonate today.

In the new biography Queen of Bohemia Predicts Own Death: Gilded-Age Journalist Zoe Anderson Norris (Fordham U. Press), independent scholar Eve Kahn restores Zoe’s legacy, illuminating her work as a novelist, magazine publisher, and social reformer who challenged the powerful and gave voice to the oppressed.
