As Black Maternal Health Week comes to a close, I want to say this clearly:

Awareness without action isn’t enough.

We need more doulas in delivery rooms. We need hospitals to train staff on implicit bias. We need insurance companies to cover doula care. We need policymakers to treat this crisis with the urgency it deserves.

I became a doula because I refused to accept that this is just how it is for us.

If this week moved you — carry it forward. Advocate for a mother in your life. Support a birth worker in your community. Ask your employer what they’re doing about maternal health equity.

The work continues.

I shed more than I realized at the time.
A neighborhood. A version of myself. The comfort of what was familiar.

I left Brooklyn and bought a house in Long Island.
I cut all my hair off, because sometimes you need to see yourself without the armor.
Some friendships faded, not out of malice, just distance and becoming.

I struggled with self-love in ways I didn’t yet have language for.

Yoga found me there, not to fix me, but to help me stay.

Through every season of uncertainty, Lo was my anchor.
My reason to keep choosing forward, even when it felt lonely.

None of it was accidental.

✨ New Chapter, Same Me — Just Better ✨

We packed up the Jeep, hugged Stitch 🐾, put my mom in the backseat, and made that emotional drive to take Logan to college. Whew… nothing prepares you for that moment.

I spent my 20s learning motherhood, my 30s shaping my son into the amazing human he is today, and now he’s living his best life — while I’m figuring out mine.

I went back to school to become a certified midwife, while teaching childbirth ed, and providing lactation support because I love this work. 🍼🌿

But I’m also leaning into me: more sun, more rest, more laughter, more 90s R&B & hip hop, more whiskey, more joy.

Life is shifting, and I’m embracing it — gently, boldly, and unapologetically.

Here’s to rediscovery, balance, and welcoming everything this next chapter brings. 💛
