PS 199, The Jesse Isador Straus School, is a K-5 school in District 3 on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The PS 199 Science Center, a Greenhouse Project Partner, will provide students with a first-hand understanding of pressing environmental problems and the tools to find creative solutions to them. The students will learn the global context of sustainability and see first- hand the connection between food production, nutrition, and healthy eating initiatives. In partnership with The Greenhouse Project of New York Sun Works, the program will support our entire school's science programming, exposing students to on-site urban agriculture and plant science while offering students a connection to the broader fields of Agricultural Science, Plant Biology, Horticultural and Crop sciences as well as specific research programs in Plant Pathology and Microbiology.
