Lauren Streit is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned her Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and her Bachelors in Science from Cornell Univeristy. Lauren provides therapeutic services to children, adolescents and families, and specializes in working with special needs children. In therapy, Lauren uses a direct and active approach to help foster change with her clients. She believes the core of successful therapy stems from the therapeutic relationship, and strives to create a safe, non-judgemental environment in which clients can develop greater self-awareness and decision-making skills.

This visual is an interesting reminder of ways to help children process their emotions. I especially like the first & second suggestions- while they seem obvious, I’m sure many of us often forget & view “tantrums” as mere annoyances....

1. Be aware of your child’s emotions
2. Recognize emotion as an opportunity for connection or teaching
3. Help your child verbally label emotions
4. Communicate empathy & understanding
5. Set limits & problem solve
