Unbelievable. This is maddening though I’m not surprised it’s Lake County

No teacher should put their hands on a student unless it’s for their safety.

If a student has a 504 or IEP due to type 1 diabetes, it should be a documented accommodation to both give them unrestricted access to the restroom and phone on their desk turned over.

There should also be a medical management plan which every teacher should be aware of and follow.

This is terrible. Those certificates help individuals with disabilities obtain jobs or go to vocational schools.

The change comes after a legislative session that for the most part championed the rights of students with disabilities.

Let’s be real. Going from summer break to the first day of school can be challenging for many. We’ve gotten used to our routine and are as prepared as we’re going to be with new school supplies, pretty backpacks, personalized water bottles and more.

The kids have just been dropped off at school and the one question I have is what team are you? Are your team boo-hoo because you’re missing your child or are you team yahoo because for the first time all summer, you can go to the bathroom by yourself.

35 years ago, the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. This allowed individuals with disabilities unrestricted access to buildings, housing, places of employment and more.

35 years later, we still have plenty of work to do and the best way is to honor those who came before us.

I proudly attended the 10th anniversary at the United Nations during the Clinton Administration.
