March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️ and we're taking action.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States — but the good news is that it's often preventable with routine, on-time screening.
This March, the Columbia University Department of Medicine and the Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases are sponsoring Staff & Faculty Screening Month. From March 2–31, we're holding space in our schedules for eligible CUIMC faculty and staff to get screened at our 51 W. 51st Street, Milstein Building (CUIMC Main Campus), and One Westchester locations.
You may be eligible if you are 45 or older, or younger with higher-risk conditions such as IBD, a personal or family history of colorectal cancer or polyps, or a genetic syndrome like Lynch syndrome or FAP.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King powerfully stated that 'of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.' His words challenge us to examine the systems we work within and ask how we can do better.

As we observe MLK Day, let's recommit to advancing health equity, dismantling barriers to care, and ensuring that dignity and justice extend to every patient and community we serve.

Murphy et al. reveal a unifying pathogenetic mechanism according to which diverse mutations in the muscle-specific ribosomal protein RPL3L cause severe neonatal dilated cardiomyopathy, establishing a framework for interpreting the growing spectrum of RPL3L variants.
