One of my favorite quotes is Earnest Hemingway’s “Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.” As an adolescent, although it would have been my chosen mask to hide behind, I would have never been allowed to dress in goth attire or paint my lips and eyes black. Instead of an outward expression of what I felt internally, I settled for listening to Morrissey.
Only his melancholy voice could embody the devastating depths of emotion I felt, but could not express. Listening to and writing music became a therapy for me to express my emotions and slowly master the art of energetic allowance. In that delicate stage of uncovering those less-than-desirable realities of human existence, too many humans get stuck, developing addictions to suffering and self-victimization as a way to prove their intellect. BEWARE: this is a trap and stems from a false sense of power!
