Dr. Michelle Copeland and Dr. Libby Copeland-Halperin strive to create beautiful, natural results with both surgical and non-surgical procedures. Dr. Michelle Copeland is certified by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic and Re

constructive Surgery, the American College of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and other professional societies. Dr. Copeland is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Copeland was the first woman plastic surgeon in the United States to earn combined doctoral degrees in both medicine and dentistry from Harvard University. After residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, she returned to her native New York City for advanced training in general surgery at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. After fellowship training, Dr. Copeland joined the staff at the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1985 and served as Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery for the Mount Sinai Services at the City Hospital Center in Elmhurst, New York.

This 63 year old patient had tried diet and exercise for decades to reduce the size of her calves and is so pleased with the new contour of her lower legs. For patients who have a maldistribution of fat in their lower legs, as well as enlarged calf muscles, I often use a combination of liposculpture and botox. Of course, the calf muscle is important for walking and other activities, so a careful approach and finesse are required for this technique, which I have refined over years of treating patients who struggle with this area and have also taught across the country and internationally.
