Governor Hochul will pass medical aid in dying into law in New York, allowing up to 20 million more people access to this end-of-life option. We could not be more grateful to her and to the sponsors of this bill for their work to make this happen.

Yes. A health care proxy can decide to discontinue medical treatment, including life-sustaining ones. Talk to the doctor about hospice or palliative care to ensure comfort as breathing support is withdrawn. Document these wishes in a living will or MOLST if possible.
