Power struggles can be some of the most exhausting moments as caregivers, but they are rarely just about defiance.

Often, they are a sign that a child is feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or desperate for control and that the adult-child dynamic has shifted into a battle instead of a connection point.

If this is something showing up in your home right now, I’d love to invite you to my next free parenting workshop:

Untangling Power Struggles
Monday, April 14
9:15 AM to 10:45 AM
Rutgers Presbyterian Church

We’ll talk about how to shift from battles for control to opportunities for growth, with practical insight you can take home.

See flyer for details and registration.

A parent recently asked:
“Should I force my child say thank you? Or honor the way my child naturally engages?”

Sometimes the real question isn’t about manners.
It’s about each family’s values.

If a family values gratitude, the boundary becomes the way we help children learn how that value shows up in the world.

This is exactly the kind of everyday parenting moment we will be exploring in our upcoming workshop:

Boundaries: Love in Action
March 10th | 9:15 - 10:15 AM

Every parent eventually hits the same moment.

You set a limit…
and suddenly you’re wondering:

Did I just make things worse?
Are they upset because I handled it wrong?
Why does holding the boundary feel harder than giving in?

Here’s what teachers learn very quickly in classrooms:

Children don’t feel loved because adults remove limits.
They feel loved because adults stay steady inside them.

The crying, the negotiating, the “you’re mean”
those aren’t signs you damaged the relationship.

They are signs your child is checking:
“Are you strong enough to keep me safe?”

In this workshop we’ll walk through how to hold boundaries with calm, clarity, and compassion without yelling, guilt, or power struggles.

You’ll leave with real language you can use that night at bedtime, homework time, morning routines, and screen time.

This is a free workshop and all parents and caregivers are welcome.

Because boundaries aren’t distance.
They’re how children experience security

Parent-teacher conferences may be over,
But the concerns that come up can follow us into the new year

If something was mentioned about your child this fall.
Now is the perfect time to get clarity and prepare for the next conference with confidence.

✨ Welcome to Small Brave Steps ✨

After more than 20 years in early childhood education, I’ve seen just how much children thrive when parents and teachers work together toward the same goals. Independence, resilience, emotional regulation are skills that shape everything from school readiness to confidence at home.

Small Brave Steps exists to support that partnership. Through parent coaching, workshops, and educator sessions, my goal is to help families and teachers build shared language, clear communication, and simple everyday strategies that help children grow with confidence.

Whether you’re a parent or an educator, you don’t have to figure it all out alone. This space is here to support you, walk with you through challenges, and celebrate every small, brave step forward.
Here’s to growing together. 🌱
