Bob Thurman……..a wonderful warm-hearted human being ! I remember meeting him at and when I had a message to give to him, I began by addressing him as Dr. Thurman. He waved that title off with a big smile and gave me a huge hug ! • We’re often told that things are too far gone… that the forces shaping our world are too large, too entrenched, too inevitable to change.

But that is a failure of imagination.

In this reading from my book Why the Dalai Lama Matters, I’m exploring something much more fundamental than politics. This is about hope—not as wishful thinking, but as a realistic, necessary way of living. A way of refusing defeat. A way of believing that conflict can be transformed, that enemies can become friends, and that our shared future is still in our hands.

This is the beginning of a new multi-part series: Why the Dalai Lama Still Matters.

Not because of religion, or identity, or ideology—but because of what he represents: nonviolence, dialogue, and the possibility that humanity can evolve beyond destruction.

If we can rule out violence, we can redirect our energy—toward restoring the planet, healing our systems, and creating a future our children can actually live in.

I’ll be sharing more reflections like this on my Substack—both free and for paid subscribers.

If you feel moved to support this work, your subscription helps sustain ongoing efforts through Tibet House US and the broader mission of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

When a brilliant architect is also a poet and defines architecture as a “responsive framework for well-being”, we know that his client, audience and our precious planet is in good hands. Thank you Andre Kikoski Architect, PLLC. Architecture is more than aesthetics; it is a responsive framework for well-being. In Saint Lucia, standing on the sixty-foot bluffs of a new commission. Here, we begin a deep exploration of sensory intelligence—crafting a residence designed not merely to sit upon the land, but to breathe with the Atlantic breeze and the rolling hills of . From the initial sketch that embraces the landscape, this is the beginning of an environment aligned with its elements to cultivate an elegant and balanced life within.

Good fortune indeed…….we are lucky to have the opportunity to view these exquisite textiles here in NYC . • Shimijimi: Dyed and Inlaid Textiles by Shigeki Fukumoto | April 30 - June 6 | Ippodo Gallery
The title of this artwork, Shōun, Auspicious Clouds, refers to the traditional symbol of clouds in Japanese art, which represents good fortune. In this piece, Fukumoto combines wax resist to produce a subtle grid structure with his distinctive dye-transfer technique, in which wet, dyed fabric is pressed onto undyed cloth. As the dye dries, it migrates between the two surfaces, seeping and transferring to create delicate, unpredictable patterns and stains on both.
Ippodo Gallery will host an opening reception with the artist on Thursday, April 30th, 5-8PM. Additionally, we will hold an Artist Talk on Saturday, May 2nd, 1:30-3PM.
Please RSVP through the link in our bio.
