*TRIGGER WARNING*
💧October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month. Today we share an emotional story from an amazing mother and individual. Meet Wendy Cruz-Chan. She is a dedicated Doula offering a variety of services including placenta encapsulation and umbilical cord art work. She is also a mother of 2 beautiful girls. Just before her beautiful was born, Wendy and her husband suffered a great loss, one that no mother would ever want to imagine. At just 19 weeks gestation, Wendy birthed her son Killian. Killian was a and with no time to digest her reality, Wendy was told she only had 2 hours to spend with her son before nurses would come to take him away. 2 hours... this meant no time to dress him, to have family visit, or to take professional pictures for memories. Experts (Doctors, Psychologists and Baby Loss organisations) stated that families should be given the option of staying with their baby as long as they wished - or at least until there hospital stay is done. But this isn’t possible as the bodies of the babies would start to “change” in the warmer temperatures of hospitals. After what Wendy suffered, she selflessly pumped and donated over 2,000 oz of breastmilk to 6 different children but she didn’t stop there. She also made it her mission to raise money to have a - a device to cool any bassinet so that can be with their families longer - donated to NY Methodist Hospital where she birthed... and in just 3 short months she succeeded. She is now working to raise money to have Cuddle Cots available in hospitals all over NY. Through her loss Wendy has empowered so many women and helped so many families. Through Cuddle Cots, families are granted the gift of time. We are truly honored to share her story on our page. Please light a candle on Oct. 15 for all the babies who were gone to soon and if you would like to donate to Wendy’s cause, please stay tuned or donate to S.O.B.B.S (stories of babies born still)- Thank you 🙏🏽

It’s October 1st. You know what that means, scary s**t, cozy sweaters and of course pumpkin spice and everything nice! In the midst of all that we love about October, there’s a splash of pink to be remembered. October also marks - Meet - a brown eyed beauty. I actually met Tina back when I was a bartender at a hip bar and grill some good years ago (yes I had a life before motherhood lol). Since then, Tina and I have remained friends via social media and as she watched me grow into a mother, I watched her get married and expand her family from one 1 kid to 3. I’ve watched her grow into a health conscious mama and even watched her mom battle Breast Cancer. What I didn’t know however, was that Tina had also been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. At the tender age of 30, Tina got some devastating news... since then it has been a world wind of emotions, both triumphant and sometimes disheartening. But somehow, she pulls through everyday. With an optimistic point a view and determination to do the best she can for her family including her 3 children, Tina is a reminder that Breast Cancer doesn’t mean give up. She fights everyday to keep her Cancer at bay and although sometimes the thought of the future and possibilities of the cancer coming back, she never gives up. Here she shares a shortened version of her story, make sure to grab a box of tissues because there may be water works! Swipe left to read. ⬅️

on is the way the baby takes your ni**le and ar**la into their mouth to suckle.
“So much I wanted from this pregnancy, but if this journey has taught me anything, it’s you can’t plan for Sh*t!!”
From the first day of birth, I was an over producer. It wasn’t til day 2 that I noticed Skye DID NOT have a real latch. She would wait for the over pour {the let down} and would feed that way. It wasn’t until my b***s kept hurting with too much milk and The nurses noticed Skye lost the swelling weight but wasn’t gaining anything back... at the hospital I requested both the doctor and lactation specialist to sit down with me and give me instructions because I knew I was doing this WRONG! I sat for 2 hours one day with the doctor, and the next day I took an hour long course on breastfeeding. The lactation specialist sat with me for almost 4 hours the next day trying to show me the many ways a baby can Latch. Skye just DID NOT want anything to do with my damn ni**le. And that was a hard thing to come to terms with! Not only did I NOT get my natural birth, I DID NOT get skin on skin, I DID NOT get to keep my placenta, I DID NOT get to delay cord clamping, and now MY BABY WONT LATCH! It was a hard truth to swallow!! On day 2.5 after birth, after a long hard discussion with the lactation specialist and myself of course, she left the room and came back with, what I would know to be my “breast friend” for the next 7 months; the Madela Breast Pump! And that’s how my Exclusive Pump journey began.
P.s
This video is of me at home with Skye she was 1 month here. I would practice constantly hoping and praying for that latch. BUT! she’s always known what she likes and what she don’t like, since the womb and I just had to respect that. -Mama Kat

A brief history: sexuality has been a hot topic dating back to far away ancient times. Still until this day, it remains a point of curiosity and debate.

FIRST, A HISTORY OF MARRIAGE: The main goal of marriage was to act as an alliance between families. Few may have any courtship or dating, but most have deep-rooted traditions. [thespruce.com] The ideal of love as a primary reason for marriage began to spread in the late 18th century and early 19th century, partly due to the French and American revolutions. [huffpost.com]

HISTORY OF PRIDE MONTH: The month of June was chosen for LGBT Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. As a result, many pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact LGBT people have had in the world.

VERY BRIEF HISTORY OF GAY MARRIAGE IN AMERICA: On 18 May 1970, Richard John Jack Baker and James Michael McConnell, Applied for a marriage license and were denied on the basis that they were both men Baker v. Nelson. On May 17, 2004, McCloskey and Kadish were the first same-sex couple to get legally married in the U.S. after being together for nearly 20 years.

VERY BRIEF HISTORY ON GAY/ LGBT PARENTING IN AMERICA: We first hear of out LGBTQ parents around the time of World War II. Starting in the 1970s, a few state courts upheld custody rights for LGBT, though some still required that they not live with a partner or engage in “homosexual activities.” In the 1970s, female couples and single women increasingly began to start their families together through pregnancy. In 1982, the S***m Bank of California opened as the first fertility clinic in the country to serve this market (although many q***r people had been doing home inseminations for years [familyequality.org]

🦷Share your teething secrets with the village! *comment tips below*

As ya’ll know, Byron has been hella teething! It’s exhausting to say the least. Some babies breeze right through their teething, only letting you know when they bite into something leaving more teeth marks 🤣. Not the case with Byron! He’s sick AF and of course I know it won’t completely go away until those lil munchers come out! Regardless I’m doing my best to keep the symptoms at bay, ie sick, cranky, Broken sleep, not eating, losing nutrients... you know the deal lol. So I’ve tried some thangs and as he gets more, I’m sure I’ll try more as each set can come with different issues! So... here are some things I’ve tried, am currently trying, and may try! If you have any suggestions please advise them below! Thank you mucho 🙏🏽 - all these items are on our amazon shop as well!
•zarbees - cough syrup (don’t believe they have a nighttime version for better sleep for children under 2yrs. If you’ve seen it, send us a link!)

- chest rub (doesn’t smell as nice as Matys but does the trick)

- breathefrida nose and chest wipes
• - children’s cough syrup and children’s goodnight cough syrup (hasn’t done a great job of keeping Byron asleep but the adult versions worked really good for me and Haz 🤷🏽‍♀️)

Matys - baby chest rub (smells amazing 🤤)

- Camilla Teething relief (worked wonders when he was younger)
• - dye free children’s (helps with fever if you’re trying to keep it down, I limit the use and only give if he has a fever)
• - i have used many oils to help soothe his gums, too many to name, but this one was recommended by a fellow mama and this is what I will be trying next :)

- I bought this one because it was the only one I saw that was for night time for ages 1yr. I just tried it tonight, so far he’s been asleep annnnnd this bottle came with a leak free top and that made me happy 😃

Last but not least, I use recommend by because she always finds dope stuff 🥳 - please comment questions or suggestions below!!!!

The beautiful Haitian singer feeding her baby at the park. Did you know that breastfeeding is heavily encouraged in Haiti specifically in Rural areas? However there is a notion that breastmilk can be bad and some mothers refuse to breastfeed their babies? Others who live in city areas often face a choice of breastfeeding their children or working to put food on the table. All over the world women are faced with these same road blocks that prevent us from feeding our children correctly. From lack of education, to religious beliefs to financial distress, women everywhere encounter challenges just like in the States. We are honored to have a figure like Riva allow us to spread the word with this image! Thank you for sharing this with us! tan viv Ayiti! Long live Haiti! 🇭🇹♥️🍼
