A widely cited 2017 study from the University of Massachusetts Amherst showed that soaking apples in a baking soda solution can remove up to 96% of certain surface pesticides, notably thiabendazole and phosmet -outperforming both plain water and bleach.

Although vinegar wasn't examined in that research, other studies indicate it's generally less effective than baking soda against pesticides that remain on the surface of produce.

Here's what matters:

* Most effective for pesticides on the outer peel, not those absorbed internally

* The study used a 1% baking soda solution soaked for 12-15 minutes

* Effectiveness varies by fruit type and the specific chemical used

It's an easy, inexpensive step that can meaningfully lower chemical residues before food reaches your plate.

Emerging research has drawn attention to the potential anti-cancer effects of dandelion root extract (DRE). In laboratory studies, DRE has been shown to induce apoptosis programmed cell death - in over 90% of colon cancer cells within 48 hours, while largely sparing healthy cells. This selective response is notable, especially when compared to conventional chemotherapy, which often harms both cancerous and non-cancerous tissue.

Researchers found that DRE works through multiple cellular mechanisms, activating both caspase-dependent and caspase-independent pathways that signal cancer cells to shut down and stop replicating. Remarkably, these effects were observed even when the p53 tumor-suppressor a common gene was mutated or inactive challenge in aggressive, treatment-resistant cancers.

Animal studies have reinforced these findings, showing meaningful tumor reduction without the severe side effects typically associated with chemotherapy or radiation. In these models, dandelion root extract was well tolerated and showed no signs of toxicity, suggesting potential as a supportive or preventive approach worthy of further study.

This posture is known as a

wide-legged forward fold. It begins from a standing position with the feet placed far apart, then you hinge at the hips and fold the torso downward, allowing the hands or head to lower toward the floor. The pose mainly targets the hamstrings, hips, lower back, and core muscles.

Movement experts and yoga teachers often point out that forward folds like this can help build flexibility and strength in the legs and spine while activating the core. They're also believed to encourage healthy circulation and provide gentle compression to the abdominal area, which may aid digestion over time. When practicing, move slowly and with control, keep the knees slightly bent if necessary, and never force the stretch. Anyone with back or neck conditions, blood pressure concerns, or balance challenges should check with a medical professional before trying the pose.

Some believe that drinking coconut water during pregnancy may support a calmer, more balanced environment for both mother and baby. Coconut water is naturally rich in electrolytes like magnesium and potassium, which help with hydration and can support the body's stress response.

When a mother stays well-hydrated and her nervous system is more regulated, stress hormones are less likely to spike - creating a steadier internal environment for the developing baby. While it's not a guarantee of temperament, maintaining hydration and mineral balance can play a supportive role in overall prenatal well-being.

Research suggests that women who add deadlifts to their workouts can dramatically boost total-body strength - in some cases by up to 60% within eight weeks - making it one of the most efficient strength exercises available.

Why deadlifts work so well for women:

Engage 200+ muscles in a single movement

Sculpt a strong back and shoulders

Build powerful glutes and hamstrings

Improve posture and help reduce back pain

Burn high calories during and after training

Make everyday lifting feel effortless

Common myth: "Deadlifts will thicken my waist."

Reality: When done correctly, deadlifts enhance an hourglass shape by growing the back and glutes while keeping the waist tight through proper core engagement.

Start light, learn the hip hinge, and progress gradually - your strength potential is far greater than you think.

Canada has approved the sale of meat from cloned cattle and pigs-with little public notice and no requirement for labeling. As of November 2025, Health Canada updated its policy to remove cloned animals and their offspring from the federal "novel food" category. As a result, these products no longer require pre-market safety reviews or any disclosure to consumers.

Regulators argue that meat from cloned animals is biologically identical to conventional meat, citing previous scientific evaluations, including U.S. reviews. They describe cloning as a breeding technique used to replicate desirable genetics, not a process that alters the food itself.

Agricultural groups have welcomed the change, saying it cuts red tape and helps improve traits like productivity and disease resistance. However, consumer advocates and food policy experts are pushing back. Without novel-food status or labeling, shoppers have no way to know if their beef or pork comes from cloned sources. Critics also warn the lack of transparency could create trade challenges with countries that maintain stricter rules or require clear labeling of cloned products.

Kiwi is one of the most overlooked fruits during pregnancy-especially in the second and third trimesters.

It's rich in vitamin C, folate, potassium, fiber, and antioxidants that support maternal immunity while helping babies grow and develop. What truly makes kiwi stand out is its potential role in placental health. Research suggests compounds in kiwi may support better blood flow to the placenta, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery-both essential for healthy fetal growth.

Its high vitamin C content also enhances iron absorption, helping lower the risk of anemia and fatigue later in pregnancy. And the fiber quietly supports digestion when it tends to slow down.

Simple food. Powerful benefits.

The Environmental Protection Agency

has approved two new pesticides that contain fluorinated compounds-often called "forever chemicals" because they can persist in the environment for centuries.

At the same time, the EPA has moved to loosen reporting requirements for companies using these substances and has proposed rolling back limits in drinking water, despite decades of research linking forever chemicals to cancer, birth defects, hormone disruption, and immune system harm.

These compounds have been widely used in industrial and consumer products for over 50 years, even as their long-term health and environmental risks have been repeatedly documented.
