I never thought this was true till I had someone very close to me experience the adverse effects of meditation.
For some people, meditation can bring up anxiety, dissociation, panic, or old trauma, especially if they’re already struggling mentally or doing long, intense sessions without support.
One large study even found mindfulness didn’t improve wellbeing for some kids and may have made things worse for those already vulnerable.
That doesn’t mean meditation is bad.
It means it’s powerful. And powerful things need guidance, pacing, and nervous-system safety.
If your practice makes you feel overwhelmed instead of grounded: pause • move your body • shorten the session • talk to someone.
Mindfulness isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Healing should never feel like you’re forcing yourself to suffer in silence. 💛
