Facet joints serve as the connecting links between the bones in the posterior or back part of the spine. These joints facilitate movements such as twisting, flexing, and extension. Inflammation in these joints can give rise to pain. A facet joint injection entails the direct administration of medication into or adjacent to the facet joint. The medication typically consists of a long-acting steroid and an anesthetic agent for numbness. When delivered directly into the affected area, this combination of medication works to reduce joint inflammation and swelling. Generally, this procedure is recommended for individuals experiencing neck, arm, low back, or leg pain caused by facet joint inflammation, who have not responded to other conservative treatments. You may be a candidate if you have sciatica, spinal stenosis, arthritis, postoperative pain, or spondylolysis. At First State Spine, we are proud to offer this surgery-free alternative to patients. Contact us today to learn more about this procedure and find out if you are a suitable candidate. Imagine being able to relieve your back pain without undergoing invasive spinal surgery. The goal of regenerative medicine is to replace damaged tissues caused by disease, injury, or congenital conditions through non-surgical means. By harnessing the power of the body's own reparative processes, regenerative therapies aim to heal injuries and reverse the effects of degenerative conditions from within. For many patients, regenerative medicines may offer an alternative to surgery as a last resort by stimulating the natural healing process of the body. Regenerative medicines have transformed the treatment of back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders by helping the body to heal itself. Learn more about this exciting alternative to surgery and let us help you today- https://bit.ly/41Xl6no

Another wonderful review for Dr. James Zaslavsky. Read the full review here- "In March of 2024, I was involved in a car accident which resulted in 2 herniated discs in my neck. I went to First State for a consult and treatment plan. Injections helped a little until they didn’t. It was at the point where I had no strength and very little use of my right arm accompanied with pain radiating from my neck down my arm. Dr. Zaslavsky was very confident He could fix the issue. Having another consult with PA Alex Mikhail, he assured me that I was in the best place possible! I scheduled my surgery and immediately after waking up, the pain in my arm was gone! If nothing else happened, I would have still been relieved. Now grip strength is getting better, as well as range of motion! I cannot thank them enough and would encourage everyone looking for treatment options to schedule a visit." Learn more about Dr. Zaslavsky here-

Degenerative disc disease (DDD) refers to the gradual deterioration of the spinal discs, which are flexible cushions located between the bones in the spinal column. These discs serve as shock absorbers and enable smooth movement, bending, and twisting. Pain caused by DDD may be intermittent, lasting for weeks or months, and it can lead to numbness or tingling in the arms or legs. Additionally, the pain may radiate down the lower back and buttocks, and it may worsen when sitting, bending, or lifting. The underlying cause of degenerative disc disease is the natural aging process, which results in the gradual deterioration of spinal discs. Minor injuries can cause small cracks in the spinal discs, often near nerves. Even if these tears are minor, they can still cause pain. The pain associated with degenerative disc disease can manifest in the neck or lower back and may extend to the arms, hands, buttocks, and legs. Contact First State Spine today to find out more about DDD and the treatments available. https://firststatespine.com/surgical-options/treatment-options/conditions/

If you suffer from spinal stenosis, it means that the bony canals - or the passageways - through which your nerves and spinal cord travel have become narrowed. This can be caused by arthritis, which causes the facet joints and ligaments to become enlarged and thicker. This in turn restricts the space for the nerves, leading to inflammation and resulting in symptoms like pain, numbness or weakness. This condition is most often acquired due to age-related degeneration of the spine or traumatic injury to the spine. Are you experiencing neck, shoulder, or arm pain due to a pinched nerve in your cervical or lumbar spine? Common causes include herniated disks, spinal stenosis, or radiculopathy. An epidural steroid injection may provide relief. During this procedure, an anti-inflammatory medication is administered into the epidural space surrounding the spinal nerves. This works to decrease pressure and swelling, which may be exacerbating pain. Epidural steroid injections have been shown to successfully reduce inflammation and associated pain. If you have been suffering from chronic back, neck, or leg pain, an epidural steroid injection could help. To determine if you may benefit from this treatment option, please contact First State Spine to schedule a consultation. We are happy to evaluate your condition and discuss whether epidural injections may help provide relief for your spinal pain. https://firststatespine.com/non-surgical-options/treatment-options/
