For those who love a birth story: Calvary is one today so I’ll share ours!
My due date was Sept 7th (Gideons birthday) and i was very adamant i didn’t want to have 2 kids share a birthday if i could help it! Lol knowing my body and history i figured id see my due date come and go but you never know! We woke up on Gideons birthday and already had plans to take the kids to a Clippers game with Cooper and Janessa. The day was very low key and i did not go into labor on my due date after all the following day, sept 8th i woke up for the first time this pregnancy, READY to have a baby. I had told John i might need his help to get things going 🤣 IYKYK (although that’s never worked in the past for us lol) ANYWAY we had church and my step dads birthday party so the day had plenty of distractions. At the party people kept asking how i was feeling and though i was slightly uncomfortable with how low baby was, i wasn’t have any contractions or anything promising WHATSOEVER! we ended up staying at my moms late, having a bonfire and i jokingly said again we have to get home to get labor started. Wellllll it worked hahaa at about 11:50 pm my water broke with just a leak! I wasn’t having any contractions or anything so we decided to go to sleep (yes clients even ruptured with my 5th baby i tried to sleep 🤣) but i did ask John “do you think we should atleast set the tub up??” John: nah I’ll get it when things start 🙃 apparently he had no faith in me having a short labor lol. My other labors were average length, the shortest thus far being 6 hours start to finish so i get his reasoning lol. 🥲i went to sleep and woke up at 2:45 and had a huge gush. Immediate started having contractions about 3 min apart but not intense at all. I texted my mom and told her what was going on and she adamantly said she was coming and that her, juju and Titus would just sleep there/ help with Galilee if things weren’t serious but that way they’d be there “just incase” and I’m so glad she did 🤣 i ended up not being able to sleep through them much so i went to the living room and sat on my birth ball and just listened to worship music during my contractions. by the time my family got there it was about 3:20. I was having a decently intense contraction when they got there and my mom quickly realized how fast things were moving. I vaguely remember my mom asking “is John awake?” “No” “did you call Kathy? “No” did you call Sarah? “No” i was in no place to answer questions as contractions had pretty quickly shifted to back to back to back. She knows i may normally be very decisive and chatty but in transition i have zero clue what i want and have one worded answers 🤣 Kathy answers “do you think i have time to shower? My mom: NO. Kathy: “sh*t” 😝 then she calls Sarah who thank goodness lives only a few minutes from me. Shes en route. Titus went to wake up John and Galilee was stirring so my siblings took her back to her room to get her down to sleep. John stumbled out completely confused by how quickly things changed and half asleep, hes trying to get the birth tub aired up. I decided I’d make my way to the shower to labor until the pool was ready. In the shower listening to my music, unsure how close i really was. Seeing my family and now Sarah scatter around quickly to get things “ready”. All of a sudden i started puking in the shower, my typical transition sign. My mom and Sarah know by experience this baby is coming and she’s coming now. I hear Sarah suggest to John that we are not going to have time to set up the birth pool and maybe just fill the bath tub with water. John being John aka wreck it Ralph 🤣 goes to yank on the bathtub k**b and snaps it right off. I remember being in my own world in the shower when he peeked over the shower stall and says “ummm Haley, i know this isn’t a good time to tell you this but i accidentally broke the bathtub, you can’t get in there.” (I have had 4 previous water births so this was a bit of a mindset change for me) but again i wasn’t in a place for decision making so i just instinctually knelt down in the shower and within 5 minutes our sweet girl was born at 4:00am into my arms. 🩵 my smallest baby and by far fastest delivery, only being about 1.5 hours. The rest was simple and sweet, the best parts of homebirth. We got tucked into bed, John made us a big breakfast and our other kiddos came to meet the baby. I did her newborn exam and we rested the day away, perfectly together. 🫶🏻 thank you Jesus for this beautiful new life and quick delivery.
