Self-care encompasses a range of activities, from seeking comfort and relaxation to indulging in a new haircut that enhances your confidence, or merely enjoying a healthy meal and a rejuvenating night's sleep. At its core, however, self-care necessitates cultivating a positive and compassionate relationship with yourself, acknowledging and accepting your needs and limitations, and providing yourself with the care and support you require. What self-care activities will you engage in today?

To all the social workers working to tackle social problems, mental health problems, societal problems, system problems, substance use problems, and make policy change that supports justice and equity, I see you.

I know the journey is long and hard. I know the way is beautifully tragic at times. And I also know we rise to the occasion. You may have very little power, but remember just how much influence you have.

So sip from your favorite mug, tell your favorite story, straighten your cape and fly, because the world needs you.

Thank you, for the work you do, the space you take up, and the people you love.

We learn so much from our 4 legged partners in the work of healing and connection.

Jim Masterson has techniques that allow us to help horses release tension though connection, intention, and awareness. These techniques assist us in making the time, space, and safety for relaxation to improve the overall wellbeing of horses.

As a mental health professional, I know that much of the principles that guide the Masterson Method apply to humans too. In our connections with friends, family or professionals, we need time, attention, and awareness to release and heal. Often, like horses, humans need someone else to make the space and time for this process to take place. We never outgrow the need for support, connection, and co-regulation. As humans we can learn ways to regulate more independently, but we were never supposed to live our life doing it alone.

So, what does all this mean in the big picture? It means:

1. We can learn to relax alone AND be comfortable asking for and receiving help.

2. You are NOT a burden.

3. Feeling our feeling is NOT weakness, it is essential to our being.

4. You are aloud to have needs and limitations.

5. You can build relations that are safe and allow for interdependence.

And it means so much more for both humans and horses!
