A year ago today we drove to Chicago to admit Ava to her first residential treatment center. It was THE hardest decision I had ever had to make as a parent up to that point. How do you leave your baby 8 hours away with strangers? I remember laying in the hotel bed that night holding my daughter in my arms and wondering if I was making the right choice. I watched her sleep all night knowing it was going to be the last night I would be able to do that.

Little did I know that it would only be the first of many difficult decisions we would have to make in Ava’s journey to recovery.

Although we still aren’t where we need to be, I am so thankful that we aren’t where we were a year ago. Ava has come so far in the past year. She’s back to playing volleyball and killing it. Raising a goat for the fair. Hanging out with friends. Being a teenager, in all it’s glory, lol. 🙄

When I think something is tough now, I just look back to see what we came thru and I know that most of what today brings is menial in comparison to what we’ve already conquered. ❤️
