2016 will mark the 8th year for the annual 5K and Biathlon, held in conjunction with the Newman Freedom Festival on 6/18-16. This year's race will benefit the Shiner's Hospital through the Edgar County Shriners. Race events consist of a 5K, (run or walk), done individually, or a Biathlon, (5K run and 15 mile bike leg) done individually, or the Biathlon can be done as a team event. Teams would consist of two members, one doing the 5K run and one completing bike course. Teams can consist of any combination of age and gender. There will again be a local resident category, defined as having a residential 61942 zip code. Awards will be given to all top finishers, including the local resident category. Race organizers are working hard to enhance the image of the race and increase participation. All participants will be entered into a free, post-race raffle. Raffle prizes include $50.00 Dick’s Sporting Goods Gift Cards, $50.00 Gas Cards, RoadID Gift Certificates, and more! All participants will receive a 2013 Finisher Medal. There will be free post race food and drink. And finally, all participants who register by early entry deadline will receive free “DRI-FIT” T-shirt. Participation is the key to keeping this event successful! Brochures and flyers are available at local merchants, and feel free to pick up several and pass them on to anyone who may be interested. Early entry deadline is June 5th,2016! Entries must be in by then to guarantee Dri-Fit T-shirt and avoid the late registration fee. Race day entries will be accepted, but with no guarantee of T-shirt. Race date is 6/18/16, so get out your running shoes, pull out the bicycle, and get ready for a great event that supports a worthy cause!
