A rainy week gave way to a sunny day, ideal for our waitlist members to enjoy a breezy luncheon at the newly unveiled Gloucester Pavilion. Chef Julian impressed the attendees with an array of grilled delicacies, including stuffed mushroom caps, fresh mozzarella grilled pizza, swordfish kabobs, and more. We appreciated seeing all who attended and look forward to welcoming you back on June 17 for our upcoming event, "Rightsizing Your Life," featuring Rob Allen from Caring Transitions.

At The Chesapeake, Memorial Day is a time to be together and to pause to recognize the men and women who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy.

Many of our residents have served our country, and we remember them today as they honor their friends and seek to carry on their legacies.

We remember, we honor, and we give thanks for our country and community.

We were thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the Gloucester Pavilion last week!

What began as a vision is now a vibrant gathering place where residents and team members can come together to stay active, share laughter, and build lasting connections. Featuring a covered pickleball court, fire pit, and inviting recreational spaces, the pavilion is designed for friendly competition, wellness, and memorable moments all year long.

We are deeply grateful to Barbara Howell for her generosity and for honoring the legacy she shared with her late husband, David. Their love for the outdoors and The Chesapeake helped bring this space to life, and their vision will continue to inspire connection and joy for years to come.

A special thank you as well to GC Commercial, our construction partner, whose support and expertise made this project possible.

Join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter. We can’t wait to see the Gloucester Pavilion filled with energy, fun, and fellowship!

"Volunteers don't necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." - Elizabeth Andrew

It was a pleasure to gather last week to celebrate volunteers who give their time and efforts to causes they love. Our 2026 Influencer and Volunteer recognition was a celebration of 47 volunteers at The Chesapeake who tracked and submitted over 3,937 hours of volunteer service, valued at $135,506!

The evening also honored this year's Influencer couple, Al and Jean Kunkel. Married for more than 65 years, Al and Jean have spent a lifetime serving others through faith, education, music, and leadership. After careers that took them across the country and around the world with the U.S. Air Force, education, and financial services, they found home at The Chesapeake nearly eight years ago.

Since then, Jean has shared her gift of music by playing piano for services, celebrations, and a monthly hymn sing, while Al supports community life through educational programs, technology, and service on the Activities Committee. Together, they embody friendship, purpose, and a deep commitment to staying engaged.

We are grateful for the Kunkels as well all of our volunteers and proud to celebrate the individuals that make The Chesapeake such a special place. A big thanks to our culinary and resident services team for a wonderful evening, the VBH Foundation for their help coordinating, and event sponsors ColonialWebb, a CSUSA Company / Comfort Systems USA Shoffner.

Spring was in full bloom at our recent Spring Tea, and what a delightful afternoon it was! 🌸

Residents enjoyed a charming blend of tradition and creativity, starting with our DIY tea bag activity—where everyone had the chance to create a special blend to take home. The room was filled with laughter, conversation, and the comforting aroma of tea.

We also put our knowledge to the test with some friendly tea trivia, sparking great memories and a little healthy competition!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this event so special! Here’s to more sweet moments, shared stories, and sips of joy together! 🌼 🫖

♟️ Checkmate & Connections!

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming the Kings & Pawns children’s group to our community for a special intergenerational visit. Residents and students spent time together playing chess, sharing stories, and enjoying plenty of laughter along the way.

Our residents loved the friendly competition and the chance to connect with these bright young minds. The students brought great energy, curiosity, and kindness to the day, making it a meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Moments like these remind us how powerful it can be when generations come together to learn more from one another. We’re already looking forward to their next visit! ♟️ ❤️

Thanks to your ‘sweet’ support, our Candy Gram sale raised $2,205 for The Chesapeake Employee Crisis Fund. 🎉

Thank you to all everyone who purchased, helped assemble, and delivered the Candy Grams. Your support made this event not only successful, but meaningful. 💕
