In 1970 cholesterol levels of 240 mg/dL LDL were considered normal. In 1977, The American Heart Association (AHA) started to advise against eating saturated fats.
Why is this bad? Haven’t we heard for years that saturated (animal) fats are dangerous and cause heart disease? Thats what they want you to think. All of your cells that make up each and every part of you are made of, yup you guessed it, FAT AND CHOLESTEROL.
Jump to 2024 and all of a sudden a level of 160-189 mg/dL LDL (low density lipoprotein (lipo = fat. Lipoprotein transports the cholesterol to where it needs to go in your body) is considered high. Considerations for lowering LDL is to eat as little animal based foods as possible. How to maintain good HDL? (high density lipoprotein) Eat lots of grains, nuts, avocados instead… here we are almost 50 years later and they are still pushing their paradigm that eating foods that are further away from our chemical structure as possible is safer. Really?!
Why would eating animal foods be bad for us? The AHA aimed to demonize animal fats, which humans have thrived on for 1,000s of years. Hunting and eating our own food is what helped us to have such big brains. Did you know that your brain is made up of fat and cholesterol too? All those omega 3’s we are recommended to eat for brain health? They are animal FATS!!
By the 1980s the recommendations to lower saturated fat in the diet grew stronger. More and more food became processed and filled with unsaturated fats. The problem with unsaturated fat is that unless it is modified (hydrogenated, HELLO GMO?!) then it is prone to oxidation, which will make it rancid and not safe to eat. This makes it a polyunsaturated fat, or PUFAS, which you may have heard of recently as being unsafe? This is real, unlike what AHA recommends.
So why would unsaturated fats be recommended as safe to eat instead of the saturated fats, which mirror the fats already present in the body?! It’s insane to me that this is literally a business model between big pharma and big food to keep as many people as possible SICK.
The more people they can trick into thinking they have “high” cholesterol, the more statins they can prescribe to fill their pockets with your money!
For the last 40+ years, the rise in propaganda has led people to believe that eating the foods that humans used to thrive on now pose a high “heart disease risk”. They have made animal based proteins and fats the “devil”.
With these dietary recommendations, there’s also an increase in the rates of chronic disease. It all goes back to what we eat. All these “common” diseases were less prevalent when people ate animal based foods. It’s scary how fast things change and become “normal”.
In America more and more people are chronically ill, overweight, obese, have autoimmune diseases, are on medications… I see so many who are this way because of lifestyle choices, because of what they choose to eat. It breaks my heart. I wish I could help more people see how healing food could be if they made the right decision on what to eat.
The powers that be change what’s normal into something dangerous. They thrive on scare tactics and enough is enough. Take power into your own hands. Eat to empower. Eat to heal. Eat to thrive.
