" Genetically-based biology is just what we start out with- the cards we are dealt. Choices and efforts are the way we play those cards." I think I'd add in that life experiences can impact the way we play the card we're dealt too... but overall an interesting way to think about the concept of "self"

Self-understanding requires us to realize that the self is not a unified whole.
